What is a safe low temp for med hair dogs?

I've got a Cocker Spaniel mix so she's got medium length fur. What is an ok low temp for her to be in before she gets the shivers? Someone told me as long as she isn't shivering. But I know if she's shivering that's already TOO cold. So, of course I don't want her suffering in the cold.

Are you talking about an outside temperature? Is this a dog that stays outside? Dogs that stay outside get heavier coats as it gets colder. They also do the opposite when it gets hot> they shed. Dogs that stay inside most of the time don't usually get thicker coats to protect them. I have had inside and outside dogs. The outside dogs had a dog house with a dry floor and clean bedding that kept them from getting too cold. Even so, if it got below 35 degrees I would let them in the basement and fix them a bed there. I'm a push over. In the morning I would let them out, and even though it would be cold they liked it that way.David

It also depends on how acclimated the dog is. If she's used to living indoors but is turned out for a portion of the day, say, she won't be able to tolerate as cool of temperatures as a dog that spends most/all of its time outdoors. It also depends on whether it's wet outside, if she has a place to get out of any wind, or better yet a small wind-proof shelter like a good doghouse...

Sorry this isn't a definite answer, but basically "it depends."

I can be pretty uncomfortable with cold before shivvering. I wouldn't use that as a base either.
Cornell University wrote a paper on it and pretty much came to the same conclusion as Shaina - it depends.
But they went into a little more detail:
