My dog can't open her mouth.

Hello there, I have a dog, Lady, she is 11 years old. She is an Airedale Terrier and has many heart problems that we are keeping under control with medicine and a monthly visit to the vet. Today I woke up and went to let her out, she was fine except I noticed her tail was tucked and she was opening and closing her mouth a little weird. I thought that she just had something stuck in her mouth and payed to mind to it. Later (around 2:00) I went to make her some lunch (Oatmeal with chicken, broccoli, celery and mixed with a cup of soup.) I took her medication and put it into little weiner hot dogs like I normally would so she would eat them without spitting it out. Then I called her over and left the kitchen. When I went to check on her, she was still standing there, her food had not been touched. I thought, ok she's just not hungry, but she still needed to take her medicine. I took the sausage and kneeled down and noticed that one eye was swollen, I thought it was because she had been laying on her side all day.

When I tried offering her the food, she turned her head away, her tail tucked. I told her if she refused to eat that I would have to force her to. Well I tried gently prying open her mouth and she let out a squeal that was louder than I've ever heard before. (She doesn't really bark unless someone is outside.) I tried one more time to get the same responce. I quickly let her outside again, she went to the bathroom and stood with her head tilted to one side, opening and closing her mouth less than half way.

Now two hours later, my dad got home and we think it might be a bee sting??? The swelling in her eye went down, it's gone completely. But she still refuses to eat and open her mouth.

I think you'd better call the vet. That can't be a good thing.

The thing is, if we call the vet, they will tell us to bring her in. I really really want to take her there, but we are already spending 300 dollars every 2 weeks to take her to a different vet that's an hour away. Plus the 6 different pills she needs to take. It all adds up.

I was just told that we will wait untill tomorrow and if it's still this bad we'll take her in.

Update: I got some half melted low fat vanilla icecream into her. But after that she retreated into the bathroom. She still flinches if you touch her head.

She needs to see the vet. It's the right thing to do.

I'm fully aware of that thank you. Except we don't have the money for a vet right now. Like I said, if it's still this bad tomorrow, I will take her to the vet.

I'm only posting here because maybe, maybe someone could confirm if it is a bee/wasp sting or if it's something worse.

If you think she might have been stung, I'd give her some Benadryl (the generic is cheap at Wal Mart). The dosage is 1 mg./pound.
