    my dog not feeling well

i have a 9yr old lab retriever mix and for the last 3 days he hasn't been feeling well. all started when he was limping on the front leg. so we took him to the vet on 6/27/07 and found out he has arthritis and it was inflamed. which i was told to change his diet. the vet gave a him a shot (dont remember the name of the shot) and some chewable meds for the arthritis. but ever since about 3 days ago he has been throwing up what ever he drinks and he has only ate twice since the vet. yesterday when i got home from work he had explosive diarrhea and looks like he has vomited everwhere. everytime he drinks he vomits. i havent givin him the chewable meds and not to mention he wont even take them or the other meds he has been on for years. i wont be able to take him to a vet till tomorrow due to lack of transportation. need to know is there anything i can to till i am able to get him to the vet. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Possibly the biggest risk, since he is not keeping down fluids, is dehydration. Try giving him him frequent small sips of water or some ice cubes.

Check his gums. If they are not pink and moist, you may have a real emergency and you need to get to vet now even if you have to call a cab.

Personally, I would do whatever it takes to get him to the vet regardless.

Ron is right. Dehydration is a huge risk here. Call a friend, call a cab, but get him to a vet asap. He could be having a reaction to the meds or the shot he was given. Regardless of the reason why he's not able to keep water down, you shouldn't wait.

What are the meds hes been given - I think my biggest concern is that hes allergic to the meds - I would find out what they are and ask the vet about that possibility. Then take it from there. I would be calling the vet out if I couldnt get there. Ifhes having a reaction to the meds it can be nasty .

Re: my dog not feeling well

well first of all i would like to thank you for the couple of replys. well i was able to take him to the vet the next day. and the vet told me some bad news. first he was on phenobarbital for seizures. he had been on them for 8years. back then we were told to watch for signs of liver problems. never saw any problems. anyways vet said his liver was most likely shot and it looked like he had internal bleeding. some of the dierraha i found when i got home turned out to be blood in his urine. so before we left the vet we were told that things were not looking good for him. i mayed sure he wasn't going to feel any pain that day. so that night i stayed up with him till 3:30am making him comfortable and when i woke up at 7:30 he had passed. he will be missed. but on a lighter side about 2 days after that my wife went into labor and now we are proud parents of a baby girl. so thanks again.

I'm sorry to hear about your pup And congrats on the new baby!

eta: I am curious...do you remember if the vet had given you rimadyl for the chewable tablets? They are usually flattish brown squares that are scored down the middle.
