I have never owned a long haired dog before and we are looking into getting a 5 year old parti pom. Just wondering what I need to get grooming wise, how often I should groom her, etc

A good slicker brush, a under coat rake, and a comb.

If you want, you can take her to a groomers during/after shedding season so they can bathe her and blow out the dead coat. NEVER EVER shave them, EVER. You never shave a double coated breed. ruins the coat, ruins their nautral defense.

Yea I knew about the double coat thing, a family friend breeds shelties. I don't plan on taking her to the groomers (well, depending on her condition when we get her) but she looks very well taken care of at the moment. Any bathing tips? can I let her air-dry? Sorry if I ask a stupid question or two, but I really don't know much about longhaired breeds... lol

Depending on the day, I may blow dry or air dry our pom. Is this pom a typical one with the fluffy coat or one of the larger (more typical for the parti's I've seen) with a flat coat?

Either one will need to be brushed and combed for knots daily. We just keep a basket next to the recliner and do ours in the evening while we watch the news. Otherwise, jsut be prepared for fur everywhere! We vacuum every other day or so.
