Red face yet another breed guess...

so, i have been going by the assumption that brom is gsd/husky cross. we met his mom and she looked pretty much gsd. we never met the dad but we were told he was gsd/husky cross. but now i am wondering.

brom has started developing a wrinkly forehead it is really cute, but i have never met a gsd or a husky with a wrinkly head.

also, his fur is different than any husky or gsd that i have seen. our siberian husky growing up had kind of fluffy fur. it was short and coarse but it was more fluffy, it didn't lay flat down. the gsd's that i have met have been more like that. brom seems to have fur more like my sister's lab x. it is really sleek and it lays very close to his body. it has a little bit of wave down the middle of his back and it is more smooth on his sides.

he usually hold his tail either straight out behind him or like an upside down "u", kind of out from his bum and then straight down. occasionally when it is up over his back it is a little curled but not like a husky.

he is SUPER smart and a very good problem solver. he also seems to have guarding instincts.

here are a few pictures. it is hard to take them on my own. he doesn't like to stay still for that long.

wrinkle head

this is a picture to show his muzzle

this is the best picture i could get of his fur

Re: yet another breed guess...

thank you, i think he is rather cute too

i don't know. i think he looks almost full gsd too, but i don't know about the wrinkly forehead and stuff. i don't know enough about dog breeds to be able to make an educated guess so i am putting this out to the very smart people on DF

Re: yet another breed guess...

I was thinking he wasn't gsd/husky either from the fur of his ears and the fur on his body.

Perhaps he does have a bit of lab in him? But I don't see how he got those huge pointy ears =). Sorry I don't know but it's great to see more brom pics!

Brom! What a big, handsome boy he's becoming <3

His color really makes me think he has a lot of GSD, but I really wouldn't say full. Trent, however, does have a bit of a wrinkle head, so who knows?

I'm not sure if you've posted this before, but have you seen his mom or dad before? Anyway, he's 150% ADORABLE!

Re: yet another breed guess...

this is brom's mom, yogi bear. she was about 50 lbs (so i am told) before she got pregnant. the family got her from a farm in new brunswick and she is supposed to be all gsd. she was close to a year (but over a year) when she got pregnant (oops litter) so she may have a little more growing to do.

What a good looking dog brom is!!!!! I would say 100% gsd at least at this point! wrinklely head could be a puppy thing right now and he may grow into that

Re: yet another breed guess...

Yeah I wouldn't put too much faith in the wrinkly head either. Pups at that age have TONS of extra skin shifting from one place to the next every day since they grow so fast. One day the wrinkels are prominent, the next maybe not so much. The head is the last thing to grow on a dog so it could just be the extra skin that will be taken up when his head grows to size. As for the fur it looks like the results of definately 1 if not 2 mixed breed parents because that coat is NOT typical for either of the 2 breeds in question for Brom. His coat will also go thru 2 or 3 different types as he grows as well before he'll actually get his adult coat on.

Re: yet another breed guess...

i didn't think his coat was gsd or husky. it was so weird. he lost his fuzzy puppy coat on his back where the wavy fur is when he was about 7-8 weeks old. the puppy fur on his head was the last to go, and that has only been lately. as the puppy fur is leaving on his head it is turning more and more tan rather than staying black oh well, he is handsome no matter what colour he is. i wonder if his fur will change more. it turned wavy and longer and smoother to his body since he lost his puppy fur.

Re: yet another breed guess...

Don't know how accurate this guess is, but as soon as I saw pictures of your boy, I thought he resembled my dad's Australian Cattle Dog. Similar eye shape, great big ol bat ears, and as far as coat goes, Cajun (dad's dog) had a very fluffy coat as a puppy and around the same age, his puppy hair started to turn to a more slick flat shiny coat. Similar body same too!
Your boy is so beautiful no matter what he is though!

Re: yet another breed guess...

thank you

i am not sure about the cattle dog. we live in newfoundland and brom came from a VERY small town (~100 people, if that) and i don't think cattle dogs are very popular around here. but his mom did come from new brunswick so you never know.
