dog sitting

So as I mentioned in a different thread, I had an extra 80lbs of dog hanging around this weekend. Kit had a blast, but no matter how sweet they are, sitting for other dogs generally confirms my decision not to get a second. It's just one of those situations where the total is more than the sum of its parts, if you get my drift. This big boy is James and he's a chocolate lab (in case you couldn't tell). Here are some highlights of the weekend.

One of his toys. A brownie point for anyone who can identify what this is supposed to be. Hint: His owner and I are both biologists.

Sharing his oversized bed.

Communal mulching.

Tug-o-war.

Posing on a hike.

Wrestling break.

Um, Kit? We need to have a chat. You're a GIRL and that's the WRONG END!

About the last pic, don't ask - James is the only dog that I've ever seen Kit go for in this way, but she does it constantly with him. She even tried it in the car on the way home from the hike!

Normally we just have one young dog. Both of the broken windows happened when we had guests.

A DNA model? Bacteria?

Dog sitting looks like fun. Yes the toy looks like DNA. Dogs love having other dogs around to play with.

Re: dog sitting

Humping is a way for dogs to establish dominance over one another... rabbits do it too. my son has 2 rabbits in his room in one cage.. a mother and her daughter and half the time the mother is mounting the daughter so female male makes no difference in this game. I'll get back to ya onmy reply to what the toy is

Re: dog sitting

Yup, those of you who guessed DNA guessed right. Pretty funny dog toy, if you ask me, but Kit thought it was fun to kill (shake violently).

Yup, he was too busy mulching his stick to care. I believe James initiated the humping way back when (probably the first time they met), and after that Kit was like "Oh really? Well, two can play THAT game!" Poor James doesn't even try anymore. And dog-shrink, yes, I definitely think it's a dominance thing with Kit - she won't try it on another dog, but it's almost constant with James. She's very middle-of-the-road: happy to dominate a submissive dog and happy to be submissive to a dominant dog.
