Introducing Lil

Hello,

Would like to take a moment and show our little girl off. We weren't going to get a dog until Febuary or March this year (after our fence was built), but 4 months ago that plan changed (still need a fence though). We were planning on getting a retired greyhound from Rescued Racers, but Lil found us before we went looking.

Her name is Lilandra, we call her Lil, neighbors and family call her Lilly. She is appoximately 1-3 years old and we believe a mix of terrier, lab, and dauchand (that's what we see). We can tell she had a little bit of a rough life before she came to us.

A person that lives up the street and around the corner, had her for awhile. They ended up getting a pitbull (I have seen the dog). The new dog (pit bull) and this one (Lil) didn't get along (she did have a few fresh looking bites on her face). So they took Lil's collar off and threw her to the streets, this is what we have heard from 3 of their neighbors. We seen her running the streets for about 2 weeks with a collar on, then one day she had it off. We waited another week and talked with a few neighbors about the dog. It was almost winter and my boyfriend (the non "mammal" lover) finally said "We have to do something about this!". It took us another week to earn her trust with food and patience. Then one day she came to our porch, he opened the door, she came in and has never left (nor wants to). At this time we cannot get our retired greyhound, but at least it's another rescue off the streets (I do not "buy" cats or dogs with so many needing homes already). So I call Lil my "rescue of sorts". She is a wonderful dog with high energy that needs lots of love and attention. Everytime I think about what they did to her I do get mad, but happy to have her here.

At first we didnt' know if we wanted to keep her or "foster" her. I have a lady that I work with that runs St. Louis Senior Dog Projects. We took Lil through her until we decieded (well mostly my boyfriend). We got Lil all of her shots, frontline, heartworm test and meds, along with a micro-chip. I've never had an animal micro-chipped, but must say I absolutley love it and any "mammal" pet will have one (even thinking about getting a few of my herps done). When it came time to choose, we couldn't let such a great dog go so we went through with the adoption.

Now that I've bored you, lol, with Lil's story here's some pics of my little princess.

Her second day with us...

Hey can you pick that up...

I'm not one for dressing my dog up, but my boyfriends mom bought her this for Christmas and I had to get at least one pic of her wearing it.

Thanks for looking,

Jamie

A few more that wouldn't fit, but I think is cute.

Me and Lil playing around in the "herp" room, she was a bit scared of the flash.

I say Lil is a pretty lucky dog to have found your front porch. She's a cutie! How do you get her coat to be so shiny?

What a beautiful dog. We have gotten many dogs in the same manner you came to get her. I can't understand how people can do this... just turn a dog loose to fend for itself. At least this one did find a good home.

Thank you!

When we first got her she was loaded with fleas and had skin irritation quite bad. After treating her with frontline and waiting a week, we started giving her a bath once a week for 2 months. We use Soothing Oatmeal Shampoo by Groomax. I would like to say it's from that but not quite sure.

Well, to look at her now, you wouldn't know she was ever infested with fleas! I've been wondering if Groomax was any good. Think I'll give it a try. One of my dog's has sensitive skin and after a bath with regular dog shampoo, she will scratch and scratch and scratch.....I had the groomer try a special shampoo for sensitive skin and it worked great! Don't know the name of it. I think she did say it had oatmeal in it.
Thank goodness you got Lil when you did, being a female stray, could've been a good chance she'd shown up pregnant. If she'd been on the streets much longer, I'm sure that would've happened. I think you should still get your greyhound rescue. Two dogs (or more) are wonderful to have in a home! I have 3, and if I could I would have 300!! I love dogs., Everybody here in this forum knows all the good rewards we receive from our dogs, I could go on and on and on......talking about mine.

Thanks Nicole.

Violet that's the only good thing I can say, they at least had her spayed. I hope the same for the pit they have now. I love the breed (pits) but I don't like irrisponsible owners, which I'm afraid they will be. I will eventually have my retired greyhound, have to focus on the fence first, lol. Even though Lil is a "shorty", both dogs would have high energy and would make great play "buddies". Your deffinately right about the rewards!

I do to except when they go up my nose, lol.

Thanks again everyone, for some reason I find myself to be the lucky one to have gotten such a great dog delivered to my doorstep. I'm sure every owner says it, but she's perfect, quirks and all!

Leila, not quite sure about the dauchand. The vet and the lady I work with say they can see it. I'm seeing the lab and terrier, can't place my finger on what else though (spent a few days looking on the AKC website at breeds). I'm thinking part cat at times, lol. It doesn't matter much though as long as she's healthy and happy.
