| My sled dog <3 So this is Napa. I thought I'd share with you all. My parents got Napa when they got married. Well a year later, in 1983. She was an oops puppy that was born at Napa auto parts where my dad did a lot of business. She was the only one left, the runt of the litter. Nobody wanted her. My parents took her in. They had my brother in 1985 and she would lay in front of his door and not let anyone in the room until they checked with her first. Then, in 1986, I was born. YAYY!! Anywho- she got very confused when my parents put me in my room, and she decided to lay in between my door and my brother's door. She made people check with her to see either one of us. Napa was a great dog. She died when I was 5 1/2. I remeber the day before she died I took a milkbone out to her pen, (In NY we all had big chainlink pens in the backyard for their doghouse, kind of like RonE's setup for his girls. My parents didn't let her in the backyard by herslef or she would escape.) I brought her out into the backyard to play and I threw the bone for her, and she just laid down. My mom said she was getting old.
When Napa died she was only 9 years old. She was very overweight though, but my dad carried her in his bedroom comforter across our 1 1/2 acre property to the Van in the back garage and brought her to the vet. I was very very sad when she died. She was my pal. I don't remember a lot about her, except her last days, but I figured I would show you all her.
her dad was a full German Shepherd, and her mom was half husky, half malamute.
*more*

| Re: My sled dog <3 Here she is with my cousin. Napa was born Feb 3 1983, and my cousin was born Feb 2 1983.
This is the very last picture I have of her. This was taken a few days before she died.
Sorry about the pic quality, they are pics of pics.
Ironically, my dad had a vet appointment to have her PTS on a wednesday. She died the Monday before her appointment.
Thanks for looking. |

She taught me and my brother how to stand. We would GRAB onto her fur around her neck to pull ourselves up! |

Sounds like you have very fond memories of her. |

| Re: My sled dog <3 Wow she looked a lot like Maya did when she was a puppy!
At least as far as facial coloring went. What was her mix?
I've never found another puppy that looked so similar. They look a lot different as adults though. But she is absolutely beautiful. Don't you love going down memory lane and remembering all you past loved ones!! |

Napa was a 1/2 German Shepherd, 1/4 husky, and 1/4 malamute. And this was not a guess. I believe the german shepherd was the mom. She was pure. And I think the neighbors half husky half mal got loose and got her preggers. So they know for a fact this was her mix. |

| Re: My sled dog <3 The only thing that we are pretty positive maya is part is malamute, lol, obviously, and in her younger months she looked like a german shepherd so theres probably some of that in there too, it's either that or belgian shepherd dog!
It's surprising that she was half GSD, she doesn't really look much like one at all except for the puppy pictures! |
