| Re: DNA Results are back Just a simple blood draw from the dog you want to test. Results in 2-3 weeks. Quote:

| I can't speak for Dogma, but, from a strictly academic standpoint, it would be interesting to know.
But then I'd start wondering about proportions: 20% chow, 75% GSD, 5% Golden, or what? |

| Re: DNA Results are back Wouldnt it be interesting to send in a dogs blood that you already knew the breeds of? Like I know Theo's parents were pure ACK Saint and boxer. So i wonder if they would be accurate or if they would say he was somthing else? Ya know? lol |

| Re: DNA Results are back With the Wisdom panel, the vet sets the price. You don't send a pic - but then again, who knows what paperwork the vet sends in to them. I find it curiously odd that their test will not work on pure bred dogs. How can you tell a dog is part greyhound if you can't tell a dog is ALL greyhound. They cite an average predictive accuracy of 84% on first generation crossbreeds, but I couldn't find any predictive accuracy stats on 2d generation crosses or beyond. It's probably a gold mine for vets and the company - I must say, it was brilliant marketing for the blood to have to be drawn through the vet (vs other companies who have a do-it-yourself kit where you swab the cheek at home). Vets who sell the test will promote that specific test over others (b/c they get a cut) and the vets already have the trust of the owners. Genius. |

Genius. | See I had the same question...I actually asked our vet and she told me that it's because the test picks up on traces of foundation breeds, etc... if you sent in a purebred sample it could come back showing many other breeds than just the one breed. I guess they've gotten into some trouble because people thought they were being cheated since their purebred didn't come back as "pure DNA." Hence no purebred samples. |

To the Op, was your guess of the breeds correct or were you surprised to find out what the mix was? Quote:

| Re: DNA Results are back Ok. Just to clear some things up.
I work at a vets so the test cost me $85. I definetly think it was worth the cost. Would I have done it if I didn't work at an animal clinic for $150-175? Probably not. Just do to convenience and cost.
Also, the test kits had to be ordered by one of the vets at my job. But I performed the test, ie collected the blood sample and sent it to the lab.
Mars, the company who performs the test, does not have any information from your vet, other than the 2mls of blood that is sent. They have NO pictures, descriptions or any other information about the pet.
Also, from what I understand the company is not able to give percentages. They just show a stronger levels of detection.
Hope that answers some questions.

| Re: DNA Results are back How long did the results take? My "two week" mark is tommorrow and I'm going out of my mind!
I see the Chow Chow and GS. Its nice that yours came back with solid results. I've been getting a little scared because most people are saying their Mutts were too mixed for results...
For everyone else, I don't work for a vet, so I had to pay full price
It was $160 for the test, plus $33 vet visit, plus $8.00 blood samle, plus some crappy disposal fee I wasn't told about till the bill came. It was about $200.
But, its totally worth it to me no matter what the results say - Curiosity has been eating me up for 6 months! |

| Re: DNA Results are back Of course some clinics add in rediculous charges. I know at my clinic we don't do that. Its interesting that they charge an add'l. $8.00 blood sample considering Mars provides the collection kits at no charge to the vet. Also, whats the point of the vet check? Were vaccinations due?
Anyways, it took 3 weeks exactly for my dogs results. Your vet should have them before your recieve a copy in the mail, so give them a call a week from today. Quote:

| Re: DNA Results are back Really? I get a copy in the mail? Sweet!
And this was not my regular vet. I just went to a PetsMart clinic because I thought it would be easier because they already had the kits. My mistake. |

| Re: DNA Results are back Phoebe's Mom, I understand. It up to the clinic as far as pricing and if they require you to see a vet.
When I sent the test away, and entered the ID# on Mars website it gave me the option of sending "the client" a copy directly or mailing to the clinic. I guess it depends which they selected. |
