Past Fosters

I wanted to dedicate this thread to my past fosters and also any one else that has or does foster.

I myself have had a total of five fosters in the last year year.

The very first day I went to volunteer a guy came rushing through our door saying he's found a stray dog. So I went outside to his car; low and behold was a little girl Rat Terrier. She was covered in a horrible smell and her breath was so bad I couldn't sit next to her. It sounds mean, but she ended up having several rotten teeth that were just hanging there. So I took her to the vet for a check up; only to find out her kidneys were failing and she needed five teeth pulled. I had her for about four months and then I got an email saying her owner thought she was her dog. So we set up a meeting and of course it was her dog, I was pissed and didn't want to give her back. She was in such horrible shape when I got her. She made up all kinds of lies and I just hated myself when I had to let her go back. Her name while she was with me was Muttida. She turned out to be 16 years old so there was no surprise of her health.

Re: Past Fosters

The week after Muttilda went home some one dropped off a six week Boxer/ ASBT puppy. Well I spent that whole day holding her. She slept most of the day. Evereyone was trying to find out where she should go. We didn't want her going to a shelter so I sucked it up and said I'll take her home and nurse her back to health. It turned out her owner bought her and when her boyfriend said he didn't want a dog she got rid of her; turning her into us. She was a great puppy and we started training later that week once she had settled in. By the time she was adopted she knew sit, down, wait, easy, treat, off, and bed time. I had her until she was around 17 weeks old so almost three months. We named her Runzel (wrinkles in German) but they renamed her Olive...It's been almost a year since I've seen her, If I could have I would have kept her.
6 weeks:

12 weeks- More pitty looking

Last Update - 5 month mark

Re: Past Fosters

Well shortley after that a Dachshund from the city needed a foster so he came home with me for a week. I don't really know much about him, but while he was here he started getting sick and I found out he had heartwarms and was in the late stages. He passed away shortley after that week I had him. Bless his soul. He was a stray and around five years old; his name was Sebastian.

Then Dwezil came along. He was a stray Chihuahua mix I was doing a good deed for. He was being boarded at a vet office and since our rescue was going through some bumpy times with money I said he could come home with me and that would save us 200-300 bucks. I only had him for about 3-5 days and we got a phone call saying his owner was putting up signs for a lost dog and it was in fact Dwezil. His owner had been looking for him since he went missing and he started crying when he saw him. We let him know we took good care of him and he got to sleep in the bed and had toys, food, water etc and plenty of play and love time. I found out when he came to pick him up Dwezil was 21 years old and walks three miles a day. All I can say is I hope I'm in that good of shape when I get that old.

And of course Teddie my Last foster..
He was a stray in Illinois and was picked up and brough back to Texas. He had been shaved because his hair was matted down to the skin over his entire body. The couple that picked him up brought him into the rescue I volunteer with and I took him home to find him a new house. After a few phone calls I found out he had been dumped twice before and ended up in the Illinois shelter both times. So he was lucky enough to get out this time. And as everyone knows I kept him; it's been 8 months of warm fluffy love.

Thanks for sharing the pictures and stories of your fosters. There are some rally nice photos (love the one with the glasses)

Of course, most importantly, thank you for taking on these guys. I really respect anyone who does foster/rescue work

And wasn't that the best feeling ever??? Finding the distraught owners of a missing dog or seeing a dog go home with someone you know will love and cherish them is what fostering is all about!! Runzel/Olive is very pretty and of course the progress teddie has made with you is incredible.

Those are great stories. Runzel is still my favorite. She is so pretty, I love her expression.

It really is. I was surprised because Dwezil had been boarded for about a week(i think) and his owner was looking for him the whole time. He told us when he picked him up Dwezil had been a stray for about 15 years before he decided to take him in. I pretty much lived at his house until he finally just made it home.

Mine too..well besides Ted. If I could have I really would have kept her. The couple that adopted her just fell in love and I knew she would get as much if not more love with them. I just wish I could have an update or see her. I would have to take new pictures of her.

Nope the hair on top of his head is the same length as the hair on his back.. Now his legs are trimmed down.
This isn't a very good picture, but you can see how long his back hair is.
