Does anyone know how to record a CD of yourself singing?

Okay, by no means am I anything close to a professional singer, but my husband absolutely loves to hear me sing and have me sing to him. So, I got the idea that I would make a CD of me singing several his favorite romantic / love songs and give it to him for our anniversary this summer. I'm sure there is a way to do this with my computer, some music making software or something, and I think I will probably need a mixer. So, any computer people out there that know of software / hardware / or what ever I would need to do this?

1) Get a Mic
2) Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Entertainment --> Sound Recorder

my community has passed a law forbidding me to sing, even while in the shower. i guess it is for the best, the neighborhood dogs wouldn't stop barking for hours. tall, skinny, white nerds should not be allowed to get near a microphone and we all know it.*

*the consumption of tequila may alter one's perception of their own singing talents or lack there of.

I personally use Cool Edit at home, I couldn't even tell you the equipement and programs in the studio.

I like Cool Edit, because I can record my vocals, than add in the instrumental if I want after.

If you go to www.download.com and search for AV Music Morpher you might be happy with what you find. It's a free program but you do have to register it and you can get more options if you pay for a pro version. Great for mixing and editing music. You can probably find some other free software at that site to help you out as well this is just one I have a little experience with because I was editing songs for a mothers day video for my mom.
