Please help me save 2 baby rabbits

I put my dog in his pen and he was occupied by something. Turns out it was a rabbit's nest. 2 baby rabbits. I had to get them out so I of course touched them to remove them. Read somewhere if you touch them, the mother rabbit refuses them. True or not? Well anyway I have no idea what to do with them. Their eyes are still closed. Of course I don't want them to die if I could help them. I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to take care of them?

You really need to get them to a wildlife rehabilitator or put them back in the nest. Here's a link that may be helpful: Caring for an Orphaned Baby Rabbit

Our pups found a bunny nest in our yard this year...none of the babies made it

Thanks! I did return them to the nest. This article you posted helped a lot! I can't find anything in the phonebook for humane society but I'll try the spca and my vet. Thanks again! I knew I could depend on this forum for help. You are most kind.

Re: Please help me save 2 baby rabbits

My family used to have a male and a female dwarf rabbit. We had babies all the time, occasionally the mom would push one out from the bunch, at first my mom would just put it back with her bare hands but the mom still refused it. Then on latter litters my mom used a towel or newspaper to put the baby back and the mom would except the baby back.

So even if you put the baby back the mom might not want it back. But I wish you luck in saving the baby bunnies!

You might as well go and get the rabbits. The natural instinct for mother rabbits is to abandon their young if a predator finds them. Its an instinctual response based on the fact that they breed, well, like rabbits...

If a rehab center can't take care of them you should just put them down.

Mother Nature can be very cold at times, but rabbits still exist in nature for a reason.

Your local spca or vet should have the number for a wildlife rehab. If not, check with your state game commission.

Re: Please help me save 2 baby rabbits

I checked them this morning and they are gone. At first I thought the mother moved them but after reading all the responses chances are the mother abandoned them and a preditor got them. I know now not to touch them in the future. Thanks for the responses.
