| Any fans of Stephen King? You name it, I've likely read it (including anything under his pseudonym Richard Bachman of course).
My favorite is probably the Dark Tower series.
Any other SK admirers up in here? |

besides the dark tower series i think that it and the stand are my favourite. i have read it over and over and over again. i haven't read it in years, i think that i will have to read it again once the series is done.

there's a king and when his son is born he has to either eat a dragon's heart or something like that..and theres this really evil nasty wizard who crushes a spider in a cup.
that's all I remember. |

i just LOVE how he writes. | "ka is a wheel" so true.
I remember the first time I read the DT books...at the time only 1- 3 were out, the last one being "The Waste Lands" as I got closer to the end of the book I kept thinking..."wth, he cant possibly tie this all up in the last hundred or so pages."
Then I finished Waste Lands only to read ....to be continued...
I frantically searched for the next book only to find that there was NO NEXT BOOK! I just about flipped out. I WAITED YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS for Wizard and Glass (which was also awesome I felt.)
The Drawing of the Three was easily my absolute favorite out of all of them. I loved the first four books...enjoyed but didnt love the next two...and the last one tied it all together nicely.
I was absolutely stunned to find ...*spoiler ahead, highlight the following lines if you want to read them but you've been warned!* I was absolutely stunned to find that the last words of the final book were the first fateful lines of the very first book. "The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed..."
amazing. btw, I've read The Gunslinger, The Drawing of The Three, The Waste Lands, & Wizard & Glass about 3 times each. The others that follow only once. Quote:

Nessa | great list for sure.
Aside from the DT series, The Stand is definitely up there for me.
Have either of you read any of the Bachman books?
One of my favorites is a story called, RAGE. Truly disturbing. Quote:

that's all I remember. | I think you're talking about "The Eyes of the Dragon" another amazing book that had completely slipped my mind.
I'm going to find it and read that one again. I forgot it takes place in the realm of the Dark Tower! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Eyes_of_the_Dragon
I do recall loving that one as well. BUt your age at the time is probably why it scared you. But then again....SK can be creepy.

| Re: Any fans of Stephen King? I've read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, From A Buick 8, and am currently attempting The Mist. I feel like I read one other SK, but I cannot for the life of me remember the title...maybe it isn't King's work at all! It was an apocalyptic story, if I remember correctly, where survivors of some sort of disaster all converge on this farmhouse in a cornfield.
At any rate, I am not a huge fan, from my small sampling. I see from this thread, though, that I haven't read his most well-known or best-loved stories, so I'll keep trying!

But it's all good...not everyone's a fan. My wife does not like SK at all! haha Quote:

oops, we must have posted at the same time! |

| Re: Any fans of Stephen King? Gah...what is going on here?!? I spent most of The Stand waiting for something to happen and felt like it never did. I'm not even totally sure what the story was about.
I'm not a total idiot...I'm an ENGLISH TEACHER, for goodness' sake! Maybe I need to re-read it. |

lol, why did it blank out mr. Charles DI(C)kens? | haha..I happen to love Di(c)kens as well but Ive only read Oliver Twist and Great Expectations. Twist was great but I really loved Great Expectations.
I think Ive read one of London's books..or at least part of it. If I'm not mistaken he was a huge dog lover...unless I'm mixing him up with someone else.
Though a huge fan of SK my absolute favorite book of all time is one by Marie Henri Beyle (or was it Boyle) aka Stendahl. It's called The Red and The Black. Amazing amazing story and writing.
Currently trying to read The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky but I'm really struggling with it so I think I might come back to it when mentally prepared.
Thinking of reading The Life of Pi in the interim. Quote:

Yeah I love his style. Not only do I love his descriptive ability but his (this might sound wierd) use of vulgarity is genius too. Quote:

| Re: Any fans of Stephen King? I really like his stuff. The only books of his I've read so far are the Shining (which scared me to my soul) and Cujo (which I affectionately call Bella)... oh and Christine but I didn't finish it.
I only really got into King in the last year or so but since starting college (and discovering the Twilight series) I haven't had enough time to read more of his stuff.
I started Tommyknockers over the summer but never finished so thats my next project.
I LOVE the movie The Green Mile but I haven't gotten the book yet but I'm sure its much better than the movie. |
