| Re: flu vaccine i don't like needles, but I'm going to get it mostly because I live downtown, ride the subway 12+ times a week, go to school also located downtown, lots of people travel to the school on public transport...just lots of ways I can come in contact with it and I have asthma..so its in my best interest. |

People in my area have been getting the H1N1 flu left and right. Hopefully all this vitamin C I take every morning will help me out, lol. |

Also, her condition was a 1 in a million thing. It's kind of like walking out to get your paper on a clear day and being struck by lightning. It's tragic, but hardly a common occurrence. |

My coworker told us all that her brother's professor (who studies medicine) told everyone not to get the H1N1 vaccine. Plus, I've never gotten any type of flu vaccine before so unless someone has an amazing argument I'm probably not going to get it. Also, the H1N1 vaccine was very rushed and I'd rather not take my chances with it. |

| Re: flu vaccine My mom wants me to get it (being at college and all) but I don't think I will. Savannah has pretty mild winters and not too many people get sick anyways.
Having to shell out $15 for the copay at the doctors, Not to mention having to go to the doctor which I think I hate just as much as my dog hates the vet. Just not worth it to me.
I've never gotten a flu shot and the last time I had the flu was when I was in 4th grade. I usually get a cold but its very rare for me to get really sick so I'm not worried (knock on wood). |

I think I had the flu over the weekend. Probably H1N1 because the newspaper said that it's the only flu strain in the state currently. Wasn't great, wasn't terrible. Better than a shot, anyway! |

| Re: flu vaccine I got the Normal Flu vac just because it was free (Insurance covered it), convent (They had a free clinic at my work), and because of my 9 month old Nephew. As for H1N1, I think I'll pass. I'm not sure why, but my gut is telling me not too, so I'm not going too. Besides I think it's gonna be to late to get the H1N1 for it to be effective. All the schools have been shut down because of H1N1, so even if I get the shot, it wouldn't be worth it. |

| Re: flu vaccine I think anyone who can get them (flu and H1N1 vaccines) should.
Usually the symptoms of H1N1 are pretty mild, but sometimes they land patients in the hospital and sometimes it kills them. If you get it, you'll get the people around you sick.
And you won't feel much like walking your dog.
The regular seasonal flu will make you sick for a longer period of time but probably won't kill you.
I would like to avoid both of them. |

| Re: flu vaccine I am.
There's a clinic near me doing them for free in Nov. so it's convenient. I'm also 19 and in college, kind of the prime "you're gonna catch it" group so...better safe then sorry.
I also got the regular flu shot. Normally I don't (I think this was my first year doing so) but because it's been so bad this year we've just been taking extra precautions. |

I would like to avoid both of them. | A guy in my office has a daughter who caught H1N1. She was as sick as a dog for days. I think she's 8-9 and she had a fever over 100 for 2-3 days. It's not a fun thing to catch. |

| Re: flu vaccine I'm an ER doctor. I'm bombarded daily by all of the infectious diseases that are going around. I'm going to get the H1N1 partly to protect myself and partly as my commitment to public health. It wouldn't be right for me to spread the virus to anyone else. |

| Re: flu vaccine I'm not sure...and it seems like, by the time I've decided, it might be a moot point! There is some talk of the H1N1 vaccine carrying some risks, as it is brand new and perhaps not as well thought out as it could have been. Having said that, I fall into the category of people for whom this strain has proved most fatal, so it seems like it would be a good idea. |

In fact the regular flu shot is "new" every year also because the virus mutates so fast that last years vaccines are ineffective.
That being said... I think its a good idea to get it but I won't.. I hate needles and I HATE doctors (sorry to all the doctors/ nurses on the forum but I've had some bad experiences) |

| Re: flu vaccine I'll be getting it. Unlike the regular flu, it's younger often healthy people getting it. Tonight a 10 year old died from it in Ontario. Caught it yesterday was dead in less than 24 hours. Here they are vaccinating the elderly and pregnant women mainly at the moment, but that doesn't seem to be the actual high rish age group. |

There have been a few reports in my area of people reacting very badly to the vaccine. I'd prefer not to get sick from my vaccination, if I can help it. Quote:

Confirm? |

| Re: flu vaccine I already got my flu vaccine and I'm definitely getting the H1N1 vac. I'm a pediatric cardiology nurse and if I were to get either the regular flu or H1N1 and pass it to one of my patients it would be very very bad for them. It's not *technically* required by my hospital but there's a lot of paperwork involved if you don't get one and it's strongly encouraged to get both. I think it's only a matter of time before it's required. |

| Re: flu vaccine I would rather not get the vaccination.
I am put off by the short test time, as well as the amount of mercury in the vaccine...
I have never received the annual flu shot, and couldn't tell you the last time I had the flu.
I am also scared sh!tless of needles, so that doesn't help matters! |
