| Windows 7 comes out today!! I'm totally psyched for this. I keep hitting the refresh button on Amazon tracking my package to see if my copy is here. If it gets here before lunch, I think I'm gonna go home and install it over lunch. I'm extremely excited about it. Anyone else equally psyched or am I the only nerd on here? |

I got the $99 Windows 7 Pro Upgrade back in June or July when they were selling them at a discount. I may upgrade to Ultimate down the road, but we'll see. |

| Re: Windows 7 comes out today!! HA!!! Now I actually KNOW someone who is buying the hype and is excited and doing this BEFORE Microsoft comes out with SP 4 for it......
Waiting here. Until 6 mos or a year. And then get it with the SP 4 (Coming to a New Windows Package Near You!) all installed. LOL
If Microsoft built cars we would ALL be walking part time.. Partly because they would need Service Packs to fix glitches or crash and partly because people couldn't figure out that you need to hit "Start" to shut the things off and they would run out of gas in the mean time... |

That being said I'm told that with XP you actually have to remove all applications before you can install the W-7. I will wait till I buy PC with W-7. Of course I want to see if and what kind of complaints arise with the use of 7. I think just last week bunches of people lost all their data on another Microsoft adventure. |

Basically, the Win 7 CD has a tool that you run to backup all your data and settings. Then you wipe the computer and re-install from the ground up. Then it imports your settings back in.
I have used Windows 7 RC for the past month and a half and love the crap out of it. I can't think of anything right now that I dislike about it. |

When I was in Jurassic kindergarten there were no PCs Which was great because I flunked kindergarten 1st time and with PCs I would not have passed the 2nd time. |

It is nice to see someone excited about a new release of a product. Guys like Hulk keep folks employed.
If everyone was like me the only ones to make money would be the fumigation company working on the moths in my wallet. If Windows 98 was compatible with the software I use I would still be using THAT.
Sad. I know. |

Sad. I know. | I do have a tendency to go after every shiny thing that comes by, but I'm also into what is practical and what works. Windows 98 was a dog. It ran slow and getting hardware to work with it was a PITA. Plus, it had the tendency to blue screen just for fun. XP was much, much easier to install stuff on and much easier to work with. Vista was/is a huge PITA. It's buggy, crashes all the time and annoys the heck out of users. Turn off user account control because it's bugging you? Now you get to deal with pop ups bugging you to turn on user account control. Enjoy. Windows 7 gets rid of all that junk, plus it's more stable, plus it's easy to set up and supports more hardware. I set up Windows 7 at home in 20 minutes. That's 20 minutes from the time I put the disk in and booted the computer to the time I was staring at a desktop. It was that easy to set up. |

| Re: Windows 7 comes out today!! Obviously more versed in the various intracacies of all than I am.
I ran Win. 98 until nothing would run with it. Then I upgraded the whole kit&kaboodle to Windows Xp Professional which is what I run now. I skipped Vista based on the online "guru's" and the Radio "guru's" (we know they all must be right.. LOL) and because I need to keep those moths IN my wallet.
I can't comment with any intellect on Windows 7 but I will likely wait a bit because it is now cold weather and if I open my wallet the poor moths might freeze!
I defer to your greater expertise on this.
I like shiny things too.. the kind that come in little velvet boxes and are presented with a card as gifts. Of course, if someone offers me a Good Set of tires that will fit the car OR the velvet box, I will probably go for the tires.... *sigh* |

In both cases, I had to google for instructions and was directed to a command line on how to do this. It worked, but having to use a command line just to install stuff is ridiculous. I ran into other issues where parts of the GUI were unresponsive. When I inquired about this issue on Linux forums I was told that I should simply operate my computer from the command line and disable the GUI entirely. It was a ridiculous way to use an OS. |

I'm buying the hype 'cause the hype I'm buying came from independent testers and IT pros that I know and trust that have been using it for months.
I just bought 7 Home Premium with a license for 3 installations for $30 more than I would have paid for a single license. I'll be installing it on a Vista desktop and a Vista laptop (with a touch screen.) I will not try upgrading my XP computers.
If the whole process crashes and burns I can still access DF on my iPod Touch. But I don't think that'll happen. |

| Re: Windows 7 comes out today!! I'm a fan of XP, too. When I got my current lenovo a year ago, I chose to get XP instead of vista, and I've never once regretted it.
As for 7... I would want to wait at least 6 months to see how it turns out before getting it. It took a little while for all the vista problems to add up. |
