anyone have any costume suggestions?

my dh and i are FINALLY going to get dressed up for halloween! the only other halloween that we dressed up for was our first halloween together in 2000!! we are going to a party and since it has been so long i don't have any ideas anymore...

i was thinking i would do something like this with my hair

but i don't have any clothes like that so i was thinking that i would make a high waisted pencil skirt and wear some kind of shirt (not low cut, i don't like that at all!!) and peep toe shoes.

my dh has a brown suit with blue pin stripes and he could slick his hair back and it would be pretty cool if he could find an old violin case... wait a second, is that from a different time??

i don't know. maybe it wouldn't be comfortable for my dh to wear a suit all night. and he really wouldn't want to ruin it.

i am open to any suggestions! thanks

its kind of easy to dress up as barbie. You just need a blonde wig, pink outfit, maybe pink shoes and put some make up on that will make you look kinda plastic. LOL!

You, too. Good luck!

Yes. Your picture is of a 1940s pin-up girl. For your hubby to match, you'd want to put him in a zoot suit or a military uniform (or a regular ol' suit with a skinny tie, but that's kinda boring). Violin case toting gangsters are from the 1920s and 30s. You'd want to wear a flapper-style outfit to match him.

Are you a blonde? If you do your hair and outfit to resemble the picture, you could be Marilyn Monroe. Dress Hubby like a baseball player and he's Joe DiMaggio!

The last couples' costume I did was a saloon girl and cowboy. Before that it was Little Red Riding Hood and the wood cutter, complete with large ax. This year I'm going as a "couple" with my best friend. She's going to be Coraline and I'm going to be Wybie (from the movie Coraline.)

Re: anyone have any costume suggestions?

thanks for the ideas!

i am blonde but not that blonde i don't think i could wear that revealing of an outfit. if i could find something needing a turtle neck i would feel much happier

i like the flapper idea...i don't know if i could make a dress in time though. there are no stores here for me to buy something to make a flapper dress. although i would love to do the pin curls and make those waves.

i still haven't seen (or read) coraline. i really want to though. i hope that you have a great time!

thank you for the suggestions!!

i am blonde but not that blonde. i don't think that i could wear something that revealing anyway. i would much rather a costume that needed a turtleneck

i would love to do the flapper thing. i don't think i would be able to make a flapper dress in time. there are no stores here for me to buy the things to make a dress like that. i am not going into town until the 24th. we will have to see. i would love to do the pin curls and the waves

i still haven't seen (or read) coraline. i really want to though. i hope that you have a great time!

Re: anyone have any costume suggestions?

Marilyn Monroe did turtlenecks In fact, I was MM for Halloween one year in college and I wore a plaid pencil skirt and a black turtleneck. I got free drinks all night at the bar we went to, so I must have done it pretty well

You're not too late to order something for Halloween! Flapper costumes are always popular...I know you can get them online.

Coraline was a good movie, but the book was (as usual) better. Scarier, for one thing. And it had a more powerful ending in which Coraline takes care of the problem of the monster mother by herself, rather than being saved by a third party. There are still not many strong female leads out there...I think it's important to preserve the ones that exist.

i agree that books are better than movies. now i really want to read it and then see it.

i will talk to my husband about the flapper/gangster idea. i don't know how he will feel about the suit all night. we will have to see.

Re: anyone have any costume suggestions?

We got cornered into doing the Seven Deadly Sins with some friends. We were into the idea since we didn't really have any, but then we found we got no choice on what we wanted to be, so they stuck us with envy and gluttony. I got them to switch so my boyfriend could be sloth. They're being sort of rude about it and demanding that I wear lingerie and a corset (uh. what does that have to do with envy?) and that my boyfriend goes in drag, which he really doesn't want to do. So I'm making him an actual animal sloth costume. They're not going to be thrilled.

We're thinking of ditching that idea and going as Dog and Beth the Bounty Hunters.

The brown nuggets in Barbie's dog's mouth and food dish appear to be the same brown nuggets Barbie is picking up with her scoop. Talk about a low quality dog food...

I think we could make Dog and Beth really funny. We'll probably end up doing that, especially since the group of friends were dressing up with just want to go to the same old boring bar.

Re: anyone have any costume suggestions?

Ioreks mom, If you can make a pencil skirt you can make a flapper's dress. It's basically just a sleeveless straight cut dress (think long baggy tank top), add some store bought fringe to the hem and long gloves, long dangly necklaces and a headband or pillbox with feathers in it. Go big on the jewellery (bangles, big "cocktail" rings) and a low heeled shoe and you're good to go. The look of the time was "boyish" in body type, so boobs and hips were not the focus.

I just got invited to a theme party...it's "Rockers goes Vegas", I was thinking of going as Charo or as Cher ala the Bob Mackie era, the hostess is thinking of being the tiger that attacked Siegrfried and two friends of hers are going as Seigfried and Roy.
Anybody got any other ideas for me? Keep in mind, I'm a tall and full figured girl so I can't be Celine Dion..lol

Re: anyone have any costume suggestions?

oh, i know that i can make a flapper dress (not to toot my own horn ) but i just don't have the supplies available to me in this small town. there is one store and it doesn't carry stuff like fringe. i will have to see. maybe i will make the basic dress and then get the fringe and add it once we go into town on the 24th. i still have to convince my husband about this idea.

i think that the cher idea is awesome! my mom looked a lot like cher when she was younger. unfortunately i didn't get any of my mom's height (or my dad's...my sister got it all!) i would love to be tall!

i can only think of elton john and elvis... I really like the charo idea though. you are going to have so much fun!!

Re: anyone have any costume suggestions?

ok, so we are thinking about maybe:

bill and sookie

borat and pamela anderson

and then not as a couple i was thinking i would like to be lara croft. my dh said that he would be billy joe armstrong with the eyeliner and red tie.
