the antitheft system in our aveo went 2 times! both times they footed the bill. the first time was within the original warranty and the 2nd time was in the extended warranty time. we bought the extended warranty that covered the wiring since the wiring was crap in that car! the car was brand new when we got it. we had it only 4 years.
also, like i said before, the airbag wiring went 2 times, the wiring to the lights (head lights, brake lights) went again and again. the wiring for the power locks went. we were out shoveling TONS of snow and we had the car warming up. the apt door was locked and the keys were on the ring with the car key and the doors locked themselves! we were freezing and tired and locked out of the car and the apt! we had to call our landlord to come and let us in the apt to get my keys. i guess i should have had my keys too but i didn't figure i would need them! we had the car at the garage numerous times to get the lock issue fixed but they thought i was crazy. finally one day i was picking up the car from the garage for another issue and i put the keys in the ignition and turned it and the doors locked. i turned off the car and marched right back in the garage and made the manager come out and try it. finally they believed me. there were so many wiring issues.
there was a point one summer when the car was in the garage every single week for 7 weeks in a row. i HATED that car. i also hated the gm garage that we went to. they always looked at me like i was crazy and thought i was complaining about nothing. the bushings were replaced every 1 1/2 - 2 months. they didn't keep them in stock...
and that is not the best of it all! we had it in for an oil change on thursday and my husband drove the car to work on friday (my husband had a 120 km (75 mile) commute each way then) and on the way home the oil light was coming on, but it was only flicking on and off so we thought it was another wiring issue (we were having a serious wiring issue at the time - but the garage couldn't find the problem...). by the time my husband pulled into the driveway it sounded like he was driving a tank. it was friday evening, after the garage was closed, and we were stuck without a car all weekend. and what happened...the guy who did the oil change didn't screw the nut on on the bottom tight enough and all the oil ran out of the car!! and then they had the nerve to blame us! they asked where we got our last oil change. my dh told them "here! last week!!"
like you said gm and i are done! this was our first and only gm car.
sorry for the giant rant! i hate gm and i hate that car.
