Designing logos.

I'm in charge of getting new tees for our agility club and I have no idea how to start! I mean, as far as how to design a new logo for us. I'm going to call the shirt place on Monday and I'm sure they can give me some pointers but since I have a long weekend I thought I would get a jump on things by looking at clip art or something.

Anyone have any pointers?? Anyone does this type of thing before? I've tried googling "agilty clip art," "agilty images," "dog beach images," etc. with not much luck.

Re: Designing logos.

Do you have some idea what you want? Dogs in it...agility equipment...club name...witty phrases...some of or all the above...?

One thing you have to be careful of in using the image/silhouette of a dog (or dogs) is that whatever "type(s)" of dog you pick, anyone whose dog type does not appear may well not want it. Depends on the people of course.

Re: Designing logos.

I'm assuming this is going to be on a shirt? If it is you'll want to first decide what color shirt your going to put it on, and how many colors you are going to use. Generally shirt printing companies use Screen Printing to put the logo on their shirts, so they can only use a few colors. I believe the colors need to be done in CMYK but I'm not 100% sure.. it's been a LONG time since I made a shirt logo.. Don't use any gradients in your design either as they will only be able to print solid blocks of color. The other thing to avoid will be very -very- small areas of color, but the print company will be able to tell you just how small you can go, and what type of file they will need. In my experience, most will take JPEGS, but some insist on PDFs.

What is the name of the agility team and things that you are going to want to put in the logo? We can help come up with some better ideas if we know that info :-)

Re: Designing logos.

Thanks guys! We will probably do light blue shirts with maybe dark blue silhouette pictures, nothing with a bunch of colors or anything. I'm thinking just our club name (A Way to Play Dog Agility Club) and city/state, pictures of dogs doing agility & stuff, hopefully a beachy theme like palm trees or something like that. And maybe incorporate something agility-ish in the name itself, like a dog jumping over the "A" or something.

Shaina, about the breed specific pictures, I had thought of that but it just depends on what type of pics I can find. Hopefully I can find some generic dog looking pics!
