Question Any Tech Savvy People Here? Acomdata Ext. Hardrive problems..

I have been googling this for the past two days..probably for a total of 6 hours looking through various forums and changing my google search question/keyword sets. I have asked all my friends-on line and off.

My problem is my external hard drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 from acomdata.

Was working before the summer, now it does not.

I plug the power in and plug it into my computer, through all the ports available, and turn it on..No red flash, goes straight to solid blue. It makes a little sound and then you hear this rattling on the inside, and sound stops, all you hear is the fan.

I see nothing on my computer, both my PC and macbook telling me it has mounted. I have run searches for Redemption, Nomad, Acomdata, CD part, HD part, etc etc etc..

What could the problem be? All my files and music are on the infernal thing and it denies my presence!

Thank you in advance

I had a similar problem with one of my external harddrives and after days of messing with it I sent it to the computer guy at my dads office and he couldn't do anything with it either. We ended up having to take the actual hard drive out of the case and use one of these:

This would prob. be a last resort as you have to buy something but it worked for me. If you do end up having to do this I would recommend having someone like at best buy or something take it out for out so you don't damage anything.

My first external hard drive, Iomega, died within the first 6 months. I bought a Western Digital to replace it and it has been humming along for a few years now. But I only use mine for back up.

I'm sure a qualified computer tech could recover files for you if the drive has had a mechanical failure.

Mmk oO I'll look into that! Will take the external on wednesday..closest to a free day off that I have atm.

And I read about uncasing the external and docking it..I didn't know that they sold some..was just going to hook it up internally to my computer if all else fails Didn't want to mess with my PC until the last resort. I guess I don't have to now Thank you!
