Re: 30 going on 16...

I am 46 and I get zits. My Charlie, tell your DH to take a hike.

At night, I wash my face with cetaphil then use biore toner with salicylic acid, then use benzoyl peroxide cream. In the morning, I use the apricot scrub in the shower. I love it becuase I have teeny tiny pores and very oily skin so, they get clogged very easily. If I miss even one of any of those steps, I will break out a few days later. So, it works, if I don't screw up. (I am just trying to copy Proactive for cheaper).

I just use the CVS brand benzoyl peroxide cream. There are other brands too. It is in the acne section of the drug store. You should have no trouble finding it.

Yep, I use Tea tree oil on them to dry them out. I'm 41 and have a very oily T-zone. On a daily basis I use Clinique Liquid facial soap (Oily skin formula), Clarifying lotion 3 (toner), and Dramatically Different moisturizing gel.

I stay clear of liquid foundations and use Bare Minerals, which almost never breaks me out (any liquid foundation will have me pizza faced within 36 hours of application).

Persagel-10 works great from clean and clear, it's medical grade in most countries other than the USA.

Re: 30 going on 16...

Proactiv is the only thing that works for me. I'm allergic to their regular formula but they sent me a "gentle formula" which they don't advertise (don't ask me why, this stuff is great!) which has worked amazingly well.

Another thing that people don't normally think about is what shampoo you're using. When you rinse it off it goes onto your face and you can end up with irritation from the perfumes, dyes, and chemicals in your shampoo. I use a shampoo from the health food store that has none of that harsh stuff and it's helped a ton.

Unfortunately with hormonal acne there's not a WHOLE lot you can do about it but keep your pores clean. But spot treatment with tea tree oil works well. Try not to wash more than twice a day, but you can use gentle baby wipes to give your face a once over and get rid of that excess oil in between washings.

Re: 30 going on 16...

I haven't found a great way to prevent zits yet (and I'm 36), but the Chlorhexiderm Scrub I got from the vet (for Beavis when he had an infected sebaceous cyst) works great to clear the little buggers up really fast! It dries out the rest of my skin too much to use it all the time.
