| Ike the Hurricane...I'm ranting AARRGGHHH I'm SOOOO ready for hurricane season to be OVER! This is the second one in as many weeks and the media hypes it up so much! The coastal cities SHOULD be on alert and some of them are having mandatory evacs. But Houston is (on the southern most side) 60+ miles inland. There are some at work (who live on the far NORTH side) who are freaking out. Gustav was to have produced bad storms for Houston. I had 5 min of rain on the Sun before it hit. Now we have Ike coming on us and he could hit Galveston head on or he could turn south and hit MAYBE Brownsville.
Be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. I have a full tank of gas, plenty of water, and batteries for flashlights and radio, and a bunch of candles. The dogs have food and plenty of doggies downers to get them through the worst of the storm (if any).
I wish the media would calm down a little and report not produce hype. Thanks for reading/listening. |

| Re: Ike the Hurricane...I'm ranting AARRGGHHH I know what you mean...I felt the exact same way in 2004...w/ Charlie and all them. It seemed like one after another. I was so glad when hurricane season was over!
We had a lot of rain and wind from Ike today(southwest FL here)...we're supposed to have more of the same kind of weather until Saturday or so, but it's not bad. My sister had to evacuate the Keys w/ my niece...she was just allowed to go back today. |

| Re: Ike the Hurricane...I'm ranting AARRGGHHH If Ike remains as it is, then Houston will have bad T-storms and some GOOD posibilities of Tornados. I wouldn't want to be near downtown with all the High rises because strong winds could take out hte windows and put glass in the air, but the 'burbs should be OK (except for flooding)
Now, IF it strenthens to a cat 3 or 4 and hits Galveston head on, I would want to be as far away as possible. Even 60 miles inland, the winds could exceed 100 MPH. |

| Re: Ike the Hurricane...I'm ranting AARRGGHHH Houston has asked that those who are not in the mandatory evacuation zip codes to stay put. Our office is closed tomorrow (another request from the city; for people to stay home and not get out on the roads). We will likely have high winds and lots of rain (I'm prepared with a full supply of doggie downers!); I'm just hoping I don't lose power. Galveston "proper" is ok because of the sea wall but the west end has been ordered to evac because it has no protection.
Anyone in the Texas Gulf Coast...stay safe. LA should be spared anything really REALLY bad. |
