Unhappy Anxiety

I have anxiety about...something... that I don't even have to worry about. What should I do?

You learn to live with it an manage it, or you get medication and manage it... i wish i was knew what was wrong with me when i was younger, would have made life much easier....

Re: Anxiety

I think that the anxiety is an effect of my medicine though. The medicine is supposed to prevent anxiety, but we upped it, and we found that they made me anxious, so we put it back down.

Re: Anxiety

It could be hereditary..My friend's mom had severe anxiety attacks..and my friend developed them in her adolescent/teen years too..I believe her mom had to take meds for her condition because they were so bad..

They can be brought on by anything, so I know your confusion..Just keep an eye on them..monitor them if they get progressively worse and more frequent..and consult you doctor if you do

But if they are small, infrequent, etc.. Try taking deep breaths and letting them out slow.. Sounds cheezy, but apparently it works. My english teacher's son was in the war, came back with a severe case of PTSD (like..more than 300k have it now../sigh) and no medication worked, no therapy worked..She was a psychology major, and knew about various tests, methods and studies..

***Can stop here..gets boring and may be untrue..this is what my teacher taught us***

She brought up R.W.Sperry and his research lead him to the conclusion that the mind is not local, that the brain transmits messages/information from this nonlocal..The universal mind. Got a nobel prize for his work. She also mentioned Michael Grogganenga (sp?)

Basically..she then proceeded to explain this in depth.. that the right hemisphere views the world, takes in whole concepts, and then transmits a message to the left hemisphere where it interprets into something logical whether it is in the subconscious or the consciousness. But during seizures and panic attacks..you usually don't realize what causes it until later, after it is done. For him, in one case, it was looking out of the plane (on a family trip) out over the treetops..He realized later that it was connected to the war he was in, looking over the treetops of the helicopter.

ANYWAY.. They discovered that In severe cases, where the seizures causes damage to the brain, they remove that part of the brain on the right which transmits those messages over to the left side..They proved that it cut the attacks and seizers in half by doing so..

Sorry, I'll stop now. Just be careful. May be absolutely nothing..just, be careful lol.

ANd please people..I am just saying what she taught us..She has like three degrees in psychology..Was teaching us how to "open" our minds to bypass writers block by giving us this lecture and her son as an example on how he is slowly healing from his PTSD via this method..

Edit: Oh, so this isn't just a one time thing?

Ok, well, I hope you get better It isn't fun not being able to control yourself or even know why you can't.. Good luck

I agree.

I get them too...and they are hereditary in my case...my granny is on meds for them, my mother had them in her late 20's/early 30's and my sister also had them.

I have a lot of stress in my life...husband has a life threatening illness (rare blood clotting disorder, he's had numerous mini strokes), we've always had issues with money, we recently moved, we had some major issues this year with a animal rescue group we volunteer for, and we have an epileptic dog that had a rough year. I was able to handle life for a long time...but eventually my body started reacting.

Mine still come out of nowhere sometimes, but for some reason there are certain triggers. Driving is one...nice, huh? If I listen to the radio, I am certain to have one. So I try to keep CD's in the car. Certain CD's cause me to have one too. I also try to talk on the phone while I drive...it helps. (I use a bluetooth)

I finally got on medication at the beginning of the year after going to the ER because I was in target and suddenly thought I was having a heart attack and was going to die! Scared the heck out of me!! But, it was just a panic attack.

I find that if I'm worried I will have one...then I do. But they still come out of nowhere too.

Do you have meds to take for "breakthrough" attacks? You may want to ask for something on top of whatever you're taking now.

Try to focus on something else...find something that relaxes you. I play my games on my cell phone or find something artistic to do.

If you need to talk, send me a Private Message and I can give you my email address.

I understand what you're going through and it's scary...I hope you can get through it soon.

I did tell my counselor, and they did help me. I also told my school guidance counselor, and she helped me.

yes, the medication is very hard to get right. It can take many tries to get it "right"

Which is why i have decided against using it... If you are not a severe case you may want to try other methods than drugs.

Re: Anxiety

You need to see a medical professional, preferably a psychiatrist who treats adolescents. Medication can be tricky with multiple diagnoses. And first you need to be diagnosed anyway. You have mentioned some other medical problems on the forum so it sounds like you will need a very thorough exam by your regular doctor first and then get some referrals for a specialist if needed.

Having worked most of my life in the medical field I think that drugs affecting the brain are best left to those who specialize in that area. If you are being treated for anxiety by your general doctor it is probably time to ask to see a psychiatrist.

what briteday said....

you have to get diagnosed by a doctor...they will go over treatment with you. Ocd symptoms vary widely, so treatments vary widely...
