You would think that an expert in foreign policy and diplomacy such as Obama would understand the power of speech from a top American political figure. Fortunately for my fascist cause, he doesn't get it. Touting his mastery of language and negotiation, "we can't drill our way out of this" has become the mantra of the left. Really? No kidding? For the reals? Well Senator, it appears as though we can at the very least talk our way into lower prices...



Oh! Stupid me. I forgot about the "millions of acres" already available to oil companies for exploration. Let's put this in visual form. The available acreage adds up to something between the sizes of Georgia and Wisconsin (depending on the pundit). A lot of land, right? Well picture yourself as an oil speculator and look at what the Americans are arguing about.



A tad more than those states combined...

Its the summer holidays(school wise) so ive been wrapped up in non-dog related activitys unfortunetly,went to the natural history museum today which was cool.

The dogs get thier turn friday we are going to the home of "Robin hood" Nottingham forest.

The thing that gets me is either side declaring that we do or don't have these resources. We won't know until it's been explored. If the democrats would engage in a real discussion, it would terrify the oil producing world (and the evil speculators) driving prices lower to make it less profitable for us to explore here. Then there's the Russian angle. Their aggression deserves the strongest of diplomatic responses. Systematically finding our own way, and ensuring American military might, we can force them into economic despair while the price of oil plummets.

Ya know, my two cents...

you make a good point there..but while we do this , we should still try and get away from oil..it will make it easier in the long haul. as for russia =P georgia was the agressor.

Classic talking point. I never said this would produce one drop of oil. It's the fact of maybe that sends the finicky speculators running for the short position. Buying us more time to get there.

The situation with Georgia encompasses many more factors than the two named parties (the inevitable change of American leadership among them).

agreed. so you are saying we should take our time "deciding on drilling" then " building rigs and refnineries" so that the price of oil drops because of speculators and in the meantime we can get away from oil and then say Boo yah we fooled everyone?

I'm saying that the process of debating and eventually opening up the whole thing will drive prices down enough to protect a good portion of it with market forces. It's the stern "no, but" position of Democrats that sends an unclear message to speculators. We can take a year plus debating it with a slant towards openness before actually doing it. Taxing the oil companies for a feel good check to the public, and demanding a straight switch to alternatives will do nothing but signify American delusion on the subject. If we play together nicely, we can sway world markets. There's no fooling, it's how markets work.

Heh, I was one of those people who went off the deep end keeping up with politics after September, 11th. I had been learning markets and futures for a couple of years before that. It enrages me to hear the "speculator" talk from the left. "Crack down on Wall Street speculators" they say...

I say "I dare you to."

There's knowing your position on topics and then there's knowing the politics being presented. People not knowing is what makes it so easy for right or left to entangle your emotions in talking points and rhetoric.

I don't care who you vote for, but vote. Don't let the mound of issues discourage you. Pick the issues that mean the most to you personally and find the corresponding match. No candidate will ever match you on all the issues.

Then I guess I'm going Republican. Since abortion is really the only topic I understand and have a strong view on...and gay marriage, but I don't feel as strongly about that as I do abortion.

Then there's health care...which I kind of udnerstand..I think. In which case I like the Dem view better than the Rep view.

So I dont know...McCain I guess...

Heh, I know what you mean. Don't worry too much about it right now. It took me all of nearly seven years to get a basic understanding of what I think, starting at age 21. Selling cars helped me immensely with at least 8-9 hours a day to read and absorb. For me the biggest influence was learning how the markets work. Now I'm a proud capitalist neo-con pig.

I do vote. Always have...i never pick a winner tho... i'd be bad luck at a racetrack.

Funny you mention it. It was high school where I was ganged up on because of being male. So my opinion was void. Even if at the time it agreed with the majority.

Most of the candidates I vote for win and that's what concerns me. I'm due for a loss.
