Re: Westward, Ho!

Where in Illinois are you now? I've only ever been in the greater Chicago area, but I thought Chicago was a nice city and the view of the suburbs as I took the train out to the Naval Base were pleasant.

You can't really leave the fish in the tank unless you are moving a very small tank a very short distance...i.e. when I moved my 10 gal Betta tank from the bedroom to the living room, so I drained until only 1/4 of the water was left and just picked it up.

Moving tanks 6 hrs away is not for the faint of heart, lol. Basically I had two coolers, and filled ziploc bags (1/2 gal) halfway with tank water, then caught the fish and put them in the bags, and the bags in the coolers. Then I put the filter media in ziploc bags with water (can't let it dry out or you risk cycling your tank). Then I took out the driftwood from the bigger tank and triple bagged it in a trash bag, and took out all the live plants, wrapped them in wet paper towels by species, bagged them, and put them in a third cooler. Then I drained both tanks and scooped out the substrate, which was bagged (also needs to stay wet) or put into a bucket and covered. Then it was just a matter of collecting all the equipment (heaters, thermometers, lights, food...etc.), putting bubble wrap around the 29 gal, and loading it all into the car...only to reverse the process 6 hours later in Illinois, haha. But every single fish survived, even the Rams which are rather delicate.

Haha...the poor girl was stuck there, because shortly after that pic she stepped over the seatbelt...I had to unhook her and the seatbelt then reattach to free her. Crazy dog...

Re: Westward, Ho!

I used to drive between Ohio (Columbus) and Illinois (Chicago and St. Louis -- although technically in Missouri) all the time. It isn't a bad drive at all!

Are you in the Chicagoland area or downstate? (I went to college in Champaign-Urbana)

Anyway, great pictures. But here in Virginia, we see houses being transported ALL THE TIME.

We're downstate. I agree, it's not a bad drive, just really, really, really dull, lol. But it's pretty much a straight shot, so not a big deal. I just dislike driving, haha.
