| trip to the ER so i spend yesturday afternoon (well, from about 4pm to about 9pm in the ER.
i had gone to the doctor saturday for a piercing that wasn't healing and i had taken it out and it still wasn't healing. so i got some antibiotics for the infection.
turns out i had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. i went to work yesturday thinking i could make it through the day. i didn't. my manager found me curled up on the floor of one of the large kennels. she took me to the emergency room where she waited with me the whole time. (my manager is awesome)
so they canceled all my appointments for today and let me have a sick day to recoup and rest up for tomorrow. i've never had a reaction to a medication before, so i had no idea what was happening. i just thought maybe i was coming down with the flu or something.
really wish dh could have been in the ER with me. especially when they put in the IV (i'm AWFUL for IV's. like, REALLY awful) but such is life i guess. i'm feeling better today and can't wait to go back to work tomorrow. |

| Re: trip to the ER Oh no! Rest up! Have those doggies give you lots of healing hugs and kisses!
I am famous for passing out. I have a medical condition that causes me to pass out on average 3-5 times a year. My SO has never passed out, so he has no idea what its like. |

| Re: trip to the ER haha.
I have what is called neurocardogenic syncope. Quote: |
Another common cause of syncope/presyncope is neurocardiogenic (vasovagal) syndrome. This condition, known by physicians as "neurally mediated hypotension", is also referred to as "the fainting reflex", "vasodepressor syncope", "vasovagal syncope", or "autonomic dysfunction". In this condition blood vessels tend to expand, which leads to pooling of blood in the lower parts of the body. As a result, less blood reaches the brain and this causes fainting. The usual stimulus for this action resides in the nerves of the heart-hence the term neurocardiogenic. A head-up tilt test can uncover the underlying cause of the fainting in this syndrome. Neurocardiogenic syncope is usually treated with medications that reduce the probability of cardiac nerves triggering the cycle that leads to lightheadedness, dizziness or fainting
| yup. Its fun.
But I am glad you are feeling better |

| Re: trip to the ER Hope you feel better soon!!!
Makes me think about when I started developing reactions to any metals that had nickel in them...I felt horrible, but we couldn't figure out why...then I started developing poison ivy like rashes...it took a while to really figure things out...even my doc was stumped! |

| Re: trip to the ER Oh, d&cmom, I am awful with the IVs, too. I don't mind shots even a little bit, but the IV thing FREAKS ME OUT.
I'm glad you've figured out what's wrong and that you're on the mend! |

| Re: trip to the ER Ohh scary to have a reaction like that, hope you are feeling better!
I've had seizures before (typically I pass out then have a seizure to go with it or I bash my head passing out) my hubby has no idea and freaked out (even as a former medic with the army) the last time I did...sometimes it's just better not to have the SO around while something like that's going on.
Then he made fun of me for throwing up, lol Feel the love? |

| Re: trip to the ER Oh wow, that is very scary! I am glad you are feeling better and that your manager was so helpful and understanding...at least s/he was there for you since DH couldn't be. Hopefully you are feeling all better today. Was it a -cillin antibiotic? I had a reaction to amoxicillin before, but it was hives and incredible itchiness--nothing nearly as scary as yours...now I just can't have anything from the -cillin family.
Jenn, that's super scary...I had a vasovagal reaction (or whatever it's called) last fall when I was having a minor procedure done at my doctor's office...one second I felt fine, the next second I was dry heaving, sweating uncontrollably, disoriented, and so dizzy I couldn't even sit up. Matt had to leave work early and come pick me up (I had taken the train to the doctor) so I could spend the rest of the day in bed...I could not imagine having that happen a couple of times a year! |
