| Do you eat meat, could you eat dog??? Im sorry, if this thread annoys or upsets anyone, it is not my intention. Iv been interested in this subject for a while.
Why do we look at dogs and cats as our friends, but look to cows and sheep, ect..... as fodder.
Would you feed your dog , DOG,?? your cat....CAT???
Please, dont be alarmed, i dont condone this, but it makes me think.
I myself am an omnivor, but i wouldnt eat dog or cat.
A friend once asked me if i would eat my dog, when he died, or keep his pelt??? I would love to keep his pelt, but i feel it would upset me to much.
So, the questions are simply put, i oook forward to your answers.
Thank you in advance. |

| For a minute there I thought I was going to have to delete this thread, lol. I wouldn't be surprised if in some communities eating dog and/or cat is a cultural activity. I would respect those cultures for what they are, even though I myself would never eat a dog or cat. I believe that in our modern culture, dogs and cats have been domesticated for a specific reason...to provide human companionship and to work for us. Certainly some people have cows as pets and would call them great companions, I suppose, but to say cows are as equally suited to serve as our companions or work for us as dogs do, I think is a stretch. Although, I'm not opposed to having a cow as a pet. |

| Thank you, for not deleting my thread. To be honest i was quite anxious about posting it.
Im from the UK, and eating cats or dogs, is frowned upon, we are a nation of animal lovers, long as their covered in batter and herbs...hahahaha
Sorry. I agree with both your posts, and i agree with your sentiments.
As i said, i wouldnt ever eat a domesticated pet, but i do get worried whats in cheap dog food, but thats, for another thread. |

| as mentioned above, eating dog and cat in some cultures is the norm.....a friend of mine when i was in school was stationed in the Phillipines w/ her family and she told me that there, dogs and cats are not safe....you had better not let them out of your site.....in India, it is a disgrace to eat cattle, they are considered sacred animals.....
would i eat dog meat? not on your life....nor would i (knowingly) eat horse.....but that's not to say that there are not other "meats" that i would have a problem w/ eating outside of the norm......
edited to add: also, i know that in the area i live (and most likely where you live as well) if you eat at an Oriental/Asian restaurant some of the meat you eat is rat, cat or other animals that the people don't consider wrong.....and i'm not saying this as an insult or "racist" thing....it's the facts, people.....

| To be honest, I think I might have eaten dog once, I am not sure. I was traveling in China and I was served soup. The way that eateries operate (I will not call them resaurants) is that they have the skull of the animal that was used to make the food on display. I cannot tell a goat skull from a dog skull from any number of skulls from animals that size. And I know they eat dog in China.
But I have trouble with the idea of eating animals that I think of as pets. I once ate rabbit in Germany and threw it up immediately. Some Germans will eat horse, I can't say that the thought appeals to me, but if the alternative were starving then I would probably not have as much trouble eating horse as I would eating cat or dog..... |

| something to think about In some southern Asia they eat a lot of dog, cat, ect. But i would NEVER IN MY LIFE eat dog, cat, horse, or lamb. Someone would have to secretly put the meat in my food without me knowing somehow. But you have brought up a very interesting topic for the forum. Gives you something to think about on other cultures and places. It's so cool (and somewhat freaky) how different some places can be compared to ours. I enjoyed reading this. Thanx. |

| No, unless I was starving and there was nothing else, then I'd have to do it.
There are certain animals that (given the choice) I will not eat - deer, rabbit, dog, cat. I've bottled fed a 3 week old fawn and raised rabbits for pets - so I can't eat them (unless its the starvation situation).
I have tried bear, alligator, ostrich and like them. Willing to try kangaroo, snake and a few others if given the opportunity. I will eat any seafood other then oysters
It would have to be a dire situation in order to eat dog/cat. |
