| Flowers, flowers, flowers. I've been LOVING my new camera. I can't give you the full effect or they would take HOURS to load. But here's a few from the last few weeks.
Backlit Hippeastrum.
From the side. Can you see the golden iridescence?
Frangipanis in bloom. I wish you all could smell these. Mmmmmmmmmm.

| Re: Flowers, flowers, flowers. A local terrestrial orchid species.
Most of the teresstrials are deciduous bloomers so when they bloom you just see these random flowers popping up out of the ground. You will only see Leaves when the Blooms are done.
Vanilla
Yes this is where real vanilla comes from. And yes it's an orchid.
That's it. Thanks for looking.:-) |

| Re: Flowers, flowers, flowers. You have Plumeria's! Hehe! They are my favorite flower. That is what my name means, Melia is Plumeria in Hawaiian.
Here is a picture of some Plumerias on my island.
The regular yellow is my favorite of all their colors. |

Beautiful name meaning Melia. I knew a woman named Hong, That means rainbow in mandarin. unlike our boring english names. |

| Re: Flowers, flowers, flowers. Really? Cool. I wonder if she was joshin me. IDTS tho because she was always kinda serious. and she was in the staets on a student visa. From China. I'll have to see if I can find out from my friends in town.
and SDO, the ground here is hard like a rock when it's that dry. No worries about falling in. Although some of the cracks are nearly two feet deep.
The first two inches of rain, and the cracks will be gone. The next two and it'll be a wet slimy mess. |

This little one is the culprit.. Maxillaria tenufolia. AKA locally as Coconut.
Soon our main species blooming season will be over, but I ALWAYS have something blooming. Be it species or hybrid. |

(sorry Carla, couldn't resist) You like species? I'll post more when my other species bloom then. I'm so glad one person here knows exactly the scent I'm talking about. It really is intoxicating. |

| Re: Flowers, flowers, flowers. Yes it is, I also have a masdevilla that's in bloom, the one they call the "Lady of the Night" The blooms are beautiful, and the scent, which is released only at night is fabulous (something between Jasmine and Moonflower). I just took a few shots of it, I'll get them downloaded and post them in the morning. |
