Re: Good excuses for calling into work

Telling your boss you have diarrhea really bad usually gets you out of work and keeps them from asking too many questions
Usually adding that the Chinese food you had last night might not have agreed is another good touch.

You can always add 'throwing up all nite' along with the 'dire rear' to keep things interesting and not get too many questions.

You really need to provide proof when you call in sick? That doesn't sound quite right....

Re: Good excuses for calling into work

I have used the "Its coming out of both ends" method and it is a winner.

Re: Good excuses for calling into work

I usually only call in when I am actually sick or in a lot of pain...I have Fibromyalgia, and also get really bad migraines, so there are times when I am 'out' enough, let alone calling in for no good reason at all...

The one that you cant use often but works every time is.

"I have a family emergency"

I have had to leave work using sick time because my dog was barking and the landlord threatened to evict me, (true story,) because my dog killed my cat (true story,) and because my SO's grandpa was in the hospital (true story)

But you can borrow any of my true stories for a not true story if you want

Re: Good excuses for calling into work

My car was once blocked in by someone and I couldn't get out to get to work. You can use that one hehe

Dentist appointment might work.

There was a list going around once of actual excuses that bosses had heard from employees. My personal favorites were:

- I can't come in to work today because I have a job interview

- I'm going to need some time off work because I was arrested.

"I need a mental health day." lol....

Actually, in my job that is a fairly common excuse. Burnout is heavy so they actually do encourage us to take "mental health" time if we feel like we need it.

What do you do for a living? I'm geussing it is pretty 'heavy' emotionally given that 'excuse'...social work, psychology, that sort of thing?

Re: Good excuses for calling into work

Since I started this thread I actually did have to call in, for ANOTHER dog related excuse: I was wrestling with Ozzie, and when I picked him up, I tweaked my shoulder-BAD. Couldn't walk, lay down, or breathe right for a full day.
