| Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? Which one do you use? and why did you pick that one. Are there any you WOULDN'T buy and why not?
I'm getting ready for a journey, and while I'm pretty good at finding my way, it never hurts to make use of all the tools you can. I've been thinking of getting one for mom's car anyway. She can get lost in a bucket. |

| Re: Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? Great thread Chrissy.
I've been contemplating getting a gps system for my move cross country.
There's so many to choose from... I'm very interested in hearing what people have to say. |

| Re: Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? I have a Lowrance iWay ( http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/...ive/iWAY-600C/) in my FJ and two Garmin E-Trex Legends that we use for biking, snowboarding and the like.
I don't think you can go wrong with Garmin, Lowrance or Magellan. |

| Re: Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? Just a funny GPS story. When my daughter was 15, she was getting a ride with her friends father. She said, hey Mr T, we should turn here (she has been where they were going many times). He said, no my GPS says to go here.... Well 45 minutes later and going through New Hampshire on the way, they ended up at their destination 1 hour late. Sometimes a 15 year old is a better navigator than a GPS. Maybe I should ask what kind he has, you don't want it |

| Re: Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? I currently own the TomTom One. As a former delivery boy with a good navigational sense, I thought I would never use it. Now I'm hooked, and although I don't have experience with other units, I've been very happy with the Tom Tom. |

| Re: Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? We have used a few Garmin models and have loved them all. Certain things to consider in the differences: screen size (I believe this differs based on preference), touch screen, cost of updating the map, and whether street names are provided when making a directional change (i.e. does the program say "turn left" or "turn left on smith st").
I would try a few and see which you like best. |

| Re: Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? My new car has navigation built in but, on my old car, I had a Magellan.
I would say the most important single feature is the ease in obtaining regular updates, whether it's a download, a DVD or a memory card.
My Magellan was only a couple years old, but I frequently found myself driving on roads that didn't exist. It's unnerving. I spent some time on the Magellan website picking out the appropriate update and, when I finally got to the checkout, a message popped up announcing that online purchases were not yet available but to watch for them to become available soon. |

| Re: Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? LOL Ron. Well not knowing the countryside, driving on roads that don't exist won't be an issue. Hopefully, I won't end up driving on roads that are supposed to exist, but don't. |

| Re: Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? I use the Garmin 660 and love it. It's sort of expensive but you can get a pretty good deal on a brand new one on ebay. Seems like I paid 349.00 for mine on there and still with full warranty and brand new. |

| Re: Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? Ok, took me a while to get around to this but better late than never.
The Garmin 670 has been thoroughly road tested through 16,395 miles. 14 States, 6 provinces, and one territory.
Well the GPS performed great for me. Mostly. Except for a harrowing experience in a potato field that was SUPPOSED to be a road. Throughout the cities, it performed flawlessly.
I only had one other time where it tried the potato trick but I was wise to its ways by then.
I would highly reccomend this model for someone looking for a mid range price. |

| Re: Who uses GPS Navigation Systems? Just a thought. What type of phone do you have? I have a magellian GPS and it works well, but my phone also has a gps built in. I subscribe to a service called telenav and it is always up to date because everytime you enter an adress to go to it uploads directions into the phone and they are the most current maps available. The service is 10 bucks a month. My magellian was over 400 bucks so had I not bought it the same money would have paid for 40 months of always up to date service. I also have no idea how it works because if my GPS loses sight of the satelites it no longer tracks, but once my phone gps locks on I can stick it in my waist holster siting inside my car and it keeps giving me accurate directions. I use the magellan for the features when I'm travelling, but had I known about Telenav before I bought it I would not have spent the money. |
