Re: Ever have one of those days...

RC just out of curiosity how much do you grain your horses? (if you do)

I'm still just floored by 16 pounds for a horse that isn't even being ridden.

I'm surprised his feet look as good as they do.

*waits for vid*

Tex looks AWESOME. *Beezee jumps in truck to go steal HT so she can then steal horse*

Re: Ever have one of those days...

I don't know what is up with You Tube, it looks fully loaded, but the thing just keeps going 'round and round'....trying to upload again.

Chrissy, I feed about a cup of grain for Rhiatta and Charlie morning and night, and about two cups for Texas(his feed was upped since he started training). I am probably going to lower Rhiatta's to only 1/2 cup soon. I feed Strategy, which is not a sweet feed. It helps supplement their grass hay(which is not high in nutrition, so I feed the grain).

16 pounds of grain daily . Yikes, surprised the guy is not foundered yet or colicked, his poor stomach!!

Re: Ever have one of those days...

You tube was doing that to me the other day, then the next day it was the fatest it's EVER been.

About the grain...

Yeah, and they don't feed any hay. I had them start on 2 flakes a day yesterday for Ferdinand.

PLUS they're stalled with no turnout.

How to founder your horse 101.

I looked at his feet and he's got stress lines but no founder lines. He's not sore and he's barefoot so that would be fairly obvious if he was sore. And he's actually skinny. I just really don't get that.

Just hope he passes the Vet Check so we can get the gelding done and over with and he can come home in a month.

Re: Ever have one of those days...

Chrissy, incredible that he remains alright with that kind of feeding! Can't wait to see him turnaround, with the new care. Hopefully, the Vet Check goes well, keeping my fingers crossed!

Alright, here is the video. Very poor quality when put onto You Tube, sorry bout that. Obviously, this is ride three, and three weeks worth of training...so he is still very young. But boy, was it fun to see Tex undersaddle.

I am also so happy I was able to film his first canter undersaddle! Not the best transition into it, but, doesn't it look smooth? I thought he balanced himself pretty good with a rider, for a first attempt!

Since my trainer does mostly Reining(showing, and training) I think I may let him work towards that in the future with him. Especially because Tex has the breeding and confo for it.

Re: Ever have one of those days...

Dani, he looks amazing.

He's come a long way for such a young guy.

How are you feeling now that you've finished with the tests? How's the new insulin dosage working for you?

Re: Ever have one of those days...

Chrissy, He is a neat guy, I can't wait to see how he turns out in the next few years.

I feel good right now, thank you for asking. I haven't had any symptoms since leaving, and they don't expect any. I am told to be careful around those that are sick, as my immune system is lower right after dosing(white blood cells go back up to normal after a few weeks). My insulin dosing is still higher then I normally have it(which in the broad spectrum of things, is still a low amount compared to others), but my bloodsugars have been getting lower again...so I am going to start adjusting it back down(I had a 60 yesterday, 70's earlier, and 80's during the day...which aren't bad, but when I start adding even more physical activities, I will run a low, low easily). It will be interesting to see how the drug works for me, people don't normally start to see results until 3-4 weeks after dosing.

I have to go in this coming Monday for two hours, and will have to do follow-ups every week for the next few weeks...and then every other week for the next few months(they will follow along with me for two years I believe). The first 6 months will be the most time consuming.

One of the ladies who works at my Diabetes Center visited while I was in the Hospital, and she is excited and really believes I will have good results. Of course, there is always the reality though...that it isn't a cure, and will probably not last forever. We ended up talking about insulin pumps, and she asked if I was considering one at some point.

The question caught me off guard, I haven't really thought about them much. Most people say it is at least a year before most go on one, if they want. I guess I am trying to hold off on it. People seem to have different opinions on them. Some love them, others don't.

I did find this one the other day, the OmniPod a tubeless insulin pump:

http://www.myomnipod.com/products/section/189/

I guess if anything, this sounds like it would fit my lifestyle the best. It is so far off before I even consider one though. If this drug keeps me on a small insulin dose, I think I would probably just stick with shots, instead of having something on 24/7.

Re: Ever have one of those days...

Wow, so much horse talk... I am lost :? but the horses look lovely!

Spunky's test results came back today. Spunk has pre-malignant cancer cells according to test results of the largest lump taken out from her. This means that with time the cancer cells can become malignant and invade the rest of her organs. It's a good thing we took the lumps out early enough... but we are to monitor her and should take out any lumps that are detected in the future.

I don't know whether this is good or bad news...

Re: Ever have one of those days...

RC, Tex is gorgeous!!! His canter looks very comfortable. Why did I think you rode dressage?

Rosemaryninja, the good news is that you had the lumps taken care of right away and now know what to be looking for. How's Spunky feeling after her surgery? Fingers still crossed that she'll be fine.

Re: Ever have one of those days...

RC, WOW, Tex is doing fantastic. I loved seeing all the groundwork your trainer was doing even under saddle. Lots of good flexion work going on . He's really a gorgeous boy. Also wanted to mention how ecstatic I am to hear the trails went so well. About the pump, I can totally understand wanting to not think about it yet.

Chrissy, sounds like Ferdinand is coming home, No?? Good news

Everybody else, Hello, miss u all, feels like I never have enough hours in the day to sit and catch up with everyone

Re: Ever have one of those days...

Oh man. I am going through DogForum withdraws!!!! I started back to work this week after being off since June 5th and I don't like it. Now I have very little time to spend on DF or even on the computer at all. By the time I get home make dinner, clean up, do some other things around the house....I'm beat. You would think I would get back in the swing of things pretty quickly but I'm not. I sucks being an adult, having a job, a family and a home, doesn't it?!! Responsibility, who wants to be responsible??!! Anyway, don't forget about me and I will be checking in when I can. I miss all your dogs already!!!!!

Re: Ever have one of those days...

Question:

I am (maybe) going to the dentist today. we have the appt..but my mom just NOW is asking people about the dentist...
One guy said that the dentist was sorta not nice and kinda shady.
Its not a group dentist place..its just one guy.
Should I go? Lol, I am not in pain or anything..but I'd hate for my teeth to be messed up because of this guy. And my mother isn't helping me (she keeps reminding me of the time a dentist screwed up her teeth)..so yeah....should we go?

Re: Ever have one of those days...

IWMP, it's kinda hard to answer a person that keeps "poof vanishing"

That being said, If you don't feel comfortable with him, don't go. Find a doctor you feel comfortable with.

ETA:

WTF?? I mean just... WTF??????? Who does this?

Re: Ever have one of those days...

Hey everyone!

Chrissy- that's CRAZY about the woman leaving those kids at your place!! I just don't get people sometimes!

Well, today was the LAST day of my summer job!! YAY!! I have a meeting that I have to go to Monday but I don't actually work with the kids again until Wednesday when school starts back up and I return to my normal position at the school. Also, the boy that I've mentioned recently having problems with has returned to his normal, sweet self. I didn't have an ounce of problems with him this week. I'm kind of confused to why his "mental state" (for a lack of a better term) declined so rapidly and then suddenly bounced back. But whatever the reason, I'm grateful that he's "back". They didn't do any medication changes; the only thing different is that they took away some milk products that he'd was allowed to have previously. I don't understand the connection but the director of the residential home swears that milk has a connection "in her experience" to aggressive behavior with these kids. I don't know whether I believe that but whatever...lol I'm not a fan of the gluten-casein free diet that these kids are on...I haven't made that a secret at work but those who are in charge think it works so I guess I have to go along with it.

That's all that's been going on in my little world...oh other than the fact that I discovered Uallis is terrified of teddy bears. What a silly dog!!

Re: Ever have one of those days...

Woo! I am way across the globe from you guys so my Friday is just ending and now the precious weekend hours are soon to begin.

iwantmypup - I would not go to that dentist...I don't know about you but if I am going to have somebody poking sharp metal instruments inside my mouth, "shady" is not the word I want someone else using to describe him.

MDawn, it's good to hear that things at work are taking a turn for the better. Honey loves all stuffed animal toys BUT she is totally freaked out by dog ones. Figures. :P

Spunky is losing weight again!!! Just when I managed to get her up to a healthy weight, her waist starts becoming really pronounced. I don't know if I am just being paranoid and imagining things. In any case, I am hoping this isn't a sign of something more serious going on. Gonna keep an eye on her. Hope for the best guys...

In other news, today I interviewed Jimmy Wales. He is the co-founder of Wikipedia. A super nice guy, very laidback and down-to-earth.
