I'm here...I was finally able to fall asleep around 4 am...then woke up @ 6am to let the dogs out to potty...then fell back to sleep. I slept to around noon. I heard the dogs whining in their crates. Don't blame them. Uallis is now snoozing here at my feet and Eddie is outside laying on the porch. lol
SDO- I will check Melatonin out. I don't like the groggy feeling with sleep aids and rarely take anything because of that...Thanks for the tip! Oh...a shopping trip sounds wonderful! I hope you guys have a wonderful time!
Glad to hear you were finally able to get some sleep RC, even if it was just 5 hours. Hopefully, you'll be able to get some rest tonight.
Reno- dogs must think the AC is a wonderful thing! Uallis LOVES his AC!
MDawn, I take melatonin. works great for me. I got Vonnie hooked too. Reno said it didn't work for her and a friend here says it keeps her awake. (shrug)
Hey everybody
RC, so sorry about the snags for your trials, sounds like a real PITA. Glad to hear you were able to get things leveled out finally last night, U did good! I know it's scary.
MDawn, love the drawing, it's gorgeous. Hope you're able to pick up some melatonin and it works well for you.
K- wanna come mow my lawn??? J/K Matthew does ours, want me to send him down?
SDO, enjoy that shopping trip, hope u find some great stuff!
Dad update:
We've got rehab started @ the hosp. It's slow going for sure. Cognitive function continues to be up and down, hard to be sure what is med induced and what is actual damage, but his brain scans show some definite areas of damage. Now we're working on placement in a rehab facility for an undetermined length of time. In his more lucid moments Dad wants to come home, but I think rehab for now is a good plan to give me time to get nursing help in place for while I work and just plain organizing everything. Spending some time this afternoon cleaning his section of the house and airing it out.
Oh ooh ooh! I'm so excited. Just got a call! 6 yo gelding 15 hh. wide bodied, apparently calm. Gonna go see this week. Maybe Monday. Will bring camera.
The guy who has him is a guy who's been working with horses for prolly 20 years and is really gentle and good with them. He was trained by one of the best respected horsemen in the country. The first guy in the country who trained instead of breaking. I really like Allyson and his way with horses. He came out and took a look at Bree's hooves and made sure we were trimming right. Had all the time in the world for her silly filly antics and she really liked him. I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up too high.
I called my mom and told her. First question. What colour is it? That was NOT one of the questions I asked. She's going with me because she wants to make sure the horse isn't ugly. *rolleyes*
I saw the funniest thing earlier. Early this evening, Uallis had been outside using the potty and getting some water. He left the water bowl filled with 'Uallis Slime' as usual. It was gross. Later, I went outside with Eddie. He goes over to the water bowl (still topped off with Uallis Slime)...and stares at it like, "Oh I don't really want to drink this!" but decides to take a drink. He takes a big gulp and then makes this "ACK!!" sound like he's going to vomit! hahahhahaha...OMG it was so funny! Poor Eddie! I dumped the water out and went inside washed the bowl and gave him fresh water. LOL! Poor baby! The things that poor Eddie has to deal with having Uallis for a brother!
K, It sounds like things have improved a little from the other day, I am happy to hear Rehab has started for him. Still sending good vibes and prayers for continued improvement.
The entire trial has been a PITA, but if I want to have any chance of stopping or slowing what this does, this would be my one shot. I spoke with the Study Doctor today, next week is cancelled for sure...it is tentatively re-scheduled for the 11th of August. I will be done four days before leaving for Cali, and he feels I shouldn't cancel my trip. We will see if the 11th actually happens when the time comes. If it doesn't happen on the 11th, I may just throw in the towel and accept the inevitable.
Chrissy, pictures are an absolute must! He sounds great!
Mdawn, That is too funny about Eddie! Nothing like drinking Uallis backwash, eh? Buddha leaves the water bowls quite disgusting as well, not just from his slobber(who would have thought a 20 week old St. Bernard drools as much as he does!), but he puts his paws in it as well. It is cleaned out, and refilled multiple times a day because of it!
For those interested, I posted a few new pictures of baby Tex taken today..
Good morning all.
Chrissy, looking forward to seeing new horse pics hope he's what you're looking for.
MDawn, the slimy water story made me throw up a little in my mouth LOL Poor Eddie.
RC, I'll be crossing my fingers the Aug. 11th trial works out for you. Just a side note have you read any of the Dr. Sears books on managing BS through diet? He's got a lot of info on specific carbs and their breakdown etc. You probably have, but it sprang to mind as I was thinking of you.
So, after visiting with Dad last night I met up with a GF and did a little shopping. Bought some cute white capris and the most gorgeous pink linen tunic. Oh and a neat pair of flowy jean capris, impulse shopping at it's finest LOL. Then to celebrate we met up with her BF and one of his friends for dinner and drinkies. Very nice night .
Dmama, Sounds like you had a good night with your GF, you needed it!
I have not heard of that book. I do know that certain carbs(pasta, pizza etc as an example) make the BS want to stay higher longer(as they are slow to digest I believe). The thing about Type 1, is diet and excersize help, but you can't control it with that only, I still need insulin as my body doesn't produce enough anymore(and will eventually stop producing as the disease kills the rest of my Beta cells). Stress makes BS go up, adrenaline etc. and without artificial insulin, it wont come down.
Here is a video called 'Pasta Night' A type 1 diabetic mom made of her son, and how she is still trying to figure out how to manage his BS after eating it Pasta. In the beginning she is counting and measuring every single carb, as he needs to 'cover' prior to eating with insulin(so she weighs his milk, green beans, pasta etc. and then adjusts his insulin according to it). I couldn't imagine being a parent with young kids, and trying to regulate them:
This gives you an idea on how difficult managing this can be, and frustrating. She was up all night adjusting his insulin, just because of pasta
For instance, while I was giving Tex a bath I started to feel low(hands start to shake etc). I went in and tested, and I was 71. However, more then likely this would have continued to go lower as my insulin was about to peak(it was the 2 hour mark since I had taken a shot). I went ahead and drank a 10 carb glass of milk, checked 15 minutes later and it went up to 96, however at dinner it was suddenly 146(which is in my range)....all of that change because of a 10 carb glass of milk!
This child is on the Omnipod, something I have looked into for the future(tubeless insulin pump).
Thanks for all the finger crosses, I am crossing mine too!
Reno, doing anything today?
Hope everyone has a great day!

RC, sorry I'm ignorant about the specific differences btwn. type I and type II. Type II is what's commonly referred to as adult onset diabetes right?
Dmama, don't apologize! You are not the first to confuse my type with Type II! The media has done a lot to fuel the misunderstandings between the two, they talk about 'Diabetes' but fail to mention that Type 1 Diabetes is completely different(auto-immune disease). Type II is considered adult onset, although, because of the obesity increase in children, more young kids are getting Type II. Type II is 90-95% of the Diabetic population, Type 1 accounts for only 5-10% of the diabetes population.
Really, I am very use to explaining the differences now, as many people don't understand how I have 'Diabetes'. The first thing out of their mouth is, "but you eat healthy, you excersize, and you are skinny!". I usually say ,"Type 1 insulin dependent." just to clarify at times.
Saw this on Cragslist and I just thought it was really well expressed. Good for whoever did this and for all the others who do every day.
I Cleaned Up Your Mess Today - again
Date: 2008-06-03, 9:36AM EDT
You decided that you wanted to move to an apartment that didn't allow pets (and by the way, landlords are forbidden to do this in Toronto). I don't know what lured you. Maybe it was a boyfriend or a girlfriend. Maybe it was a great view. Maybe you liked the woodwork. At any rate, it was more important to you than she was. So you took her down to the shelter, still wearing her cute little pink leopard collar with a bow, and you cheerfully wrote on the card that she was very healthy for her age and friendly and just likes to sleep in the sun! I guess you knew her pretty well - you put her birthday down on the card, too, making me believe you've probably had her for her entire life.
Then you left, secure in your rationalization that somehow, in the midst of kitten season, your seventeen year old cat would find a home. The shelter took a picture of her scared face and big eyes and put it on the web.
For two weeks, I looked at that picture. I hoped someone else would see her fear and feel compelled to help her, but the public wasn't seeing her. She was back in isolation, getting vitamin B shots and subcutaneous fluids. The tech wrote "depressed" on her card. I'm not surprised. I'd be depressed too if I went from "sleeping in the sun" to a metal cage with a thin layer of newspaper.
Finally today, I couldn't stand it anymore. I felt too guilty thinking about her sitting in that cage at her age. So I went down and I got her, and now she's curled up on a fleece baby blanket in a cat tree in my bathroom. When I go in there, she rubs her head on my hand.
Today, I cleaned up your mess. I felt worse for your cat than you did. And all over the city, other rescuers did the same. They rescued your abandoned cats and dogs and bunnies and exotics. And we all wondered the same thing as we did it: How could you create this situation? How is it that you feel no remorse? How is it that you were you able to walk away from an animal you shared your home with for a year, ten years, fifteen years, knowing that they might die because of your actions?
I'll never meet you to ask you those questions. I just hope I meet the person who will be good enough to give your baby that sunny spot to sleep for the rest of her life (however long that is). She deserves it, and it's a crying shame you didn't have the decency to give it to her. This was originally posted in 2006. I am re-posting because the message hasn't sunk in!

Chrissy- It would be nice if something like that was printed in local newspapers every so often. I've often felt angry and upset like that about my strays, especially Eddie because he was just a little puppy with no hope of fending for himself and it was in the middle of winter. I don't understand how people can be so heartless.
Where is everyone at?? lol
I just got back from the store earlier. I had to get some supplies. I'm going to try to make Eddie and Uallis some dog biscuits tomorrow. Also, I made a stop at my mom's house to visit but she had company so I didn't stay long.
Chrissy, That was a well written craiglist ad, good on them for writing it. I hope it hits home to people.
Great pictures, looks like a good storm, and your place is so green(looks around at the desert outside)! Love the picture of Brisa munching on grass, she looks quite comfortable.
Mdawn, you posted the same times as me! Sounds like Eddie and Uallis are in for a yummy treat tomorrow! I need to run off and get some stuff for Riley too, his Birthday is on the 24th. I was looking at Shalva's website and I was thinking of making the cake she has on there.

I'm going to have to look at that cake! lol For Uallis's birthday I made a PB Carrot cake and the dogs loved it but it was kind of messy...they smeared cottage cheese all over the floor. lol
Are you going to throw Riley a party? Those are always fun! For Eddie's birthday in October I was thinking about inviting other people and their dogs but they don't have any doggie friends really. Just my mom's dog...and my mom wouldn't be able to come as my driveway is a fair stretch from my house...She has severe arthritis and has difficulty walking. She wouldn't be able to walk the distance. My boyfriend has a close friend that has several dogs but I'd never let Eddie and Uallis around them...I believe those dogs are fairly aggressive. So most likely it will just be Eddie and Uallis for the party unless we have another dog by then...(we are thinking getting another pooch sometime this Fall, its still up in the air though...)
I hope you take lots of pictures of Riley on his B-day and post them! Especially him eating the cake that you make!
