Re: Ever have one of those days.....

I just paid off my Jeep and want to get a new one, but would rather go without the payments-but am afraid if I keep it I'm gonna have to start putting a lot of money into it...no matter what something's gonna take money from ya. I think I'll get a new one instead of waiting for a suprise repair to come.
It has snowed about 4 inches already today and is not stopping anytime soon...and it's freezing out so we can't go out and play-no fun to have snow when it's this cold out! I'm gonna take Otis out for a run and then give him a bath-this should be interesting....me, a 3 year old and 100+ pounds of dog-who ya think will win that battle?? We'll seee...maybe I'll try to take pics of it tooo----boy, I AM up for a challenge!

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

WOOHOO!!!!! We had early closing today due to the storm... I'm home and snuggled in for the storm which is supposed to last until Saturday morning...

I have another piece of news if anyone cares.... I've mentioned previously that I might be relocating to Az or TX. I was just waiting on my clearance to go through for the AZ job. Well, AZ just called me - turns out the job doesn't need a clearance and I will be relocating to Sierra Vista with a start date of 30 March. I'm so excited and scared sh**less at the same time....

R, you sure have your work cut out for you. Glad you're having the carpets cleaned though.

We all will appreciate it when we come for our sleepover. I'm not even going to bring my laundry when we come.....how's that?

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

Ok, well it's my turn. Penny(my peccary) has laminitis, or the beginings of founder for you horse and hoof people. Jorge, a vet I had never dealt with but who works at the vet clinic I go to was nice enough to stop by(read get off the bus and get to work late) and take a look and confirmed my suspicions. Right rear hoof. BUMMER. The first injection went in easy enough, the second took over and hour as it's not like I have a stanchion to lock her into, and her tusks are thicker than a pencil and she was NOT happy. Not to mention she's in estrus.

PMS and a sore foot. Both me and the vet narrowly escaped getting nailed numerous times. Plus her hide is thicker than a horses so getting a needle in is hard enough.

And. We get to through it ALL again on Saturday. I'm hoping I caught it early enough that the hoof isn't too damaged. I couldn't even do any of the things you normally would like ice the foot as she just wasn't having it. UGH
Anybody ever dealt with founder before, feel free to pm or email me.

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

Oh Chrissy, so sorry about Penny.

Never treated laminitis myself but I know lots of folks that have.

Did you check it out online? (Sorry, I'm sure you did)

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

Yes, that's actually how I made the diagnosis. I had a feeling and the symptoms just fit. The vet was really only to confirm my feelings and help me with the injections.

I started another thread in Off Topic so I don't hijack yours with peccary stuff.

http://www.dogforums.com/7-off-topic...tml#post213236 (Javelina with Laminitis??)

I owned a horse that had been foundered twice but never had to deal with it myself. Other than having soft feet and heels that just didn't grow he was fine. So I have no personal experience.

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

So I heard I was missing alot of fun from this thread... Thanks DIGITSMAMA for checking on me. =) I was soooo busy lately..

And will you guys please stop complaining about the cold??? You know what's worst?? Since friday its been above zero (yesterday it was plus 5C and today it could be 8C, who knows.. LOL) and my golly.. the poop that was never picked up and got buried under the snow are thawed... PICKING UP THAWED POOP is very very very disgusting.. Pardon to those who just finished lunch.. but I haven't eaten since this morning when I bravely cleaned up my backyard... I think I'm scarred for life.. SERIOUSLY..

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

Aww Chrissy..Im sorry about Penny. I guess I have some learning to do because I have no idea what laminitis is. I am assuming that it can be controlled ,correct?

I have never dealt with a Peccary but my pot belly Wilbur was banned from the vets office from the screams from his injections that the vet made house calls instead. I remember this one time the vet came over and Willy was 190 lbs at the time and drug the vet through the yard a piece. It took the neighbors to come help us corner him to get the needle out of his rump. Not fun with a pig so I could imagine a Peccary with tusks

Good Luck.

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

I'm hoping it can be controlled. I'm unable to do a lot of the things I would be doing for a horse as she's just not going to go along with them. She will walk on a harness and sit for treat. She will also charge and bite if she feels cornered. She's tame not domesticated so she's got a LOT more fight or flight response than your average domestic animal. I was sure I was going to be have a trip to the hospital myself
this morning. And she's so STRONG. Her neck muscles are amazing. I've seen her uproot small trees to get at roots.

Here she is having a belly rub on a better day. You can see the hoof structure pretty good. I've never looked a a pigs hooves but to me hers look like deer. There very soft and the keratin part is flush with the soft pad projecting slightly, not concave like a horses.

Here's a close up of her feet. Those hooves a sharp! I ruined a few shirts carrying her back to the yard after escapes if I didn't have a rope. Yes, go ahead and laugh at the image of me carrying a 50 lb recalcitrant pig clacking and woofing away while my shirts all ripped and torn from her struggles.

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

Wow I am gone for like one day because my internet stops working out of nowhere and I miss a LOT!

I have decided this thread is the "Come and vent when you are just mad- and talk about herem's all day long thread."

Although RBark has been MIA for a while..

Sorry about the peccary...pig? Not sure, but it's cute! I don't do livestock animals. I like dogs, cats and horses. I hope everything works out.

hey do you think if we get one of the mods to delete this thread, our days will all miraculously get better??

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

Looking at the pictures of the outstretched, calm little Penny getting a belly rub- I'd swear you were making that stuff up. J/K. I'm sure she can put up quite a struggle.

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

Edit-

My bad day was yesterday when I brought chance and Kody to the dog park and there was a dog out on his patio right by the park and someone had left the other gate to the park open (WHY?????) and my dogs ran and got nose to nose with this poor 10 yr old yellow lab and started howling and barking. the owner came on his patio and took his dog inside and gave me a look as if to say- "Dont bring your dogs here if they cant behave." I yelled over the barking, "SOMEONE LEFT THE GATE OPEN!!" but he wasn't having any of it.

But dogs will be dogs right? if your dog is on ur patio right by the dog park, you're gonna expect to get barked at right?

I've been MIA? I posted less than 8 hours ago. You ladies sure are needy! Always seeking attention. Psh.

Sorry about the bad day. Yeah I've come to think of this thread as "Talk about your day, or just have fun" thread. So good days, bad days, fun days, whatever, anything goes.

I'm not sure if I understand what happened, but Ollie will do a play bow and a very rapid succession of barks at a dog he wants to play with.

Re: Ever have one of those days.....

Well with Kody howling his adorable little head off, and Chance barking, it was a nightmare. Chance tends to bark aggressively at othet dogs, which we have been working on. And he recently became friends with an Akita. But he hasn't been socialized with other dogs. My fault- never took him out as a pup cuz he had parvo and I was too scared to take him anywhere. But Kody instigated by howling his head off!
