How do you feel about drinks in class?

I was wondering this...

I haven't had many teachers that are too strict about it tho.
But how do you feel about drinks in class? Like Water, juice, etc etc

I had one teacher that ONLY let you bring water..then another teacher that didn't want anything in class...but he wasn't very observant, so people just brought water in anyway

Just curious

My husband is a teacher. His classroom has concrete floors. He has never allowed anything except water because everything else leaves a sticky mess when it is spilled. This year he discontinued water or any other food snacks in the classroom since the students do not pick up their garbage when leaving the room. Teachers don't get paid enough to be the custodian too.

As long as there is a top on the drink I don't see any harm.

I think that only water should be allowed. Juice causes sticky messes if spilled, especially if the floors are carpeted. Water can just dry up or be wiped up.

Re: How do you feel about drinks in class?

if kids don't act like adults in class they won't be treated like adults in class

If kids shoot spitballs and rubberbands and other things what do you think they will do with a straw full of juice or water....
I wouldn't allow it either

in my classes and the U. they can eat and drink I don't care... some of my students actually bring their dinners.

Re: How do you feel about drinks in class?

I had teachers that didn't allow water or juice in class and I ended up doing very poorly in those classes. I was constantly coughing from throat infections when I couldn't drink (interrupting the whole class) or falling asleep from low blood sugar if I couldn't have a snack or juce. I always cleaned up and wasn't loud about it in the classes we were allowed though.

In the real world even if you're in a meeting they usually serve coffee and snacks or at least allow you to bring in water so I don't see the harm in it. If you treat people like children they'll act like children. Plus it's way healthier to drink water and eat when your body needs it.

Re: How do you feel about drinks in class?

I remember not being allowed to have water in class and feeling soooo tired all the time. Now I realize I was dehydrated! We got one chance for a drink and that was lunch time. My kids are allowed to bring small water bottles to class - they just have to be the kind with the spout on the top so if they do spill over, not much, if anything, comes out. I remind my kids to drink water/ juice throughout the day so they won't be so tired.

Re: How do you feel about drinks in class?

I always end up having drops of coffee on my notes lol

I think eating a whole meal is disrespectful to the professor, a snack like raisins, muffin is ok. (I am in university though)

I've left high school 7 years ago lol but I remember it was very strict since it was a private school. Nothing but your books were allowed in the class room we did not even have the right to bring our school bags.

I think it was ok, I mean nobody died

Don't ya wonder how anyone ever even made it through school before the days of carry out drinks, bottled water, cell phones, backpacks, fast food, ball point pens, pencil sharpeners and actually being forced to walk to school etc.

Re: How do you feel about drinks in class?

When I was in highschool (last year lol), all my teachers allowed you to have water. But that's about it. You get a nutrition/lunch period so students shouldn't have to eat in classrooms. But my art teacher called me out of history class to have breakfast with her, and she'd let kids order pizza to the room and stuff, kids would bring paper plates and napkins and stuff. Depends on the teacher I guess, they have janitors so its not like they have to go find a mop themselves...

Around here they allow one bottle water. They can refill it as much as they want. The reasoning behind it is that the brain does better if hydrated. Its been long said " when you are tired, drink water to rehydrate the brain.."

Re: How do you feel about drinks in class?

I had some friends in college who used to put vodka in their bottles with their juice. I can understand where some teachers in college, or even high school might be concerned and would want to ban beverages in their classrooms.

Re: How do you feel about drinks in class?

We aren't allowed to have any type of food or drinks in the classrooms, except gum. Not even a water bottle. I think we should be able too, my friend goes the the public school and they are allowed to eat and drink soda or whatever in class but we (I go to a private school) can't I wish we could though. A lot of the teachers at my school are really uptight, its annoying. One time a guy in my finance class got an after school detention for not having a pen (had a pencil, but no working pen). I think that that was a little extreme.

We would get detention for chewing gum in class

Re: How do you feel about drinks in class?

All of my teachers allow food and drinks, if they notice you left it at the end of class and try to leave they stop you and make you pick it up, if you refuse they call security and have you escorted to ISAP, which is in school dentention. People even bring meals into class if they just got back from a doctors appointment and missed lunch.

I think the stupid thing our school district did was removing all the soda machines because the drinks weren't healthy. That is just stupid because if people want to drink healthy then they would't buy a pop but if they want to buy a pop they should be allowed to.

Re: How do you feel about drinks in class?

I also get very tired and distracted when I'm thirsty, and I get thirsty often. The problem is, drinking at the drinking fountain long enough to not be thirsty anymore takes so long my teeth hurt from the cold. When I'm really thirsty, I go to the art room and get a plastic cup. The teachers are so confused by me coming back with a plastic cup and wondering where I got it, they tend to forget it's not allowed. I also don't tell other kids where I get them. Teachers would start to catch on.

Re: How do you feel about drinks in class?

hehe , kinda neat seein a couple teachers in here..i plan on being a teacher , what do you guys teach?

=D as for drinks and snacks..i think people do learn better when hydrated..all my classes in highschool where 90 min classes so ofcourse you would get thirsty and it was pretty much necessary to have a bottle of water in the classroom..as for soda nd juice i can see where that gets bad with spills..and they will happen.

food..i also think a good snack shud be allowed in the classroom hehe.

i remmeber eating breakfast in my german class every morning back in the day....oh boyy i loveed school =D
