Unhappy Missing lab.. :'(

Hey all!

Yesterday at around 4pm we noticed that our 8yr old yellow lab, Jewel, was missing. We went out looking for her and didnt find her anywere... We went and asked some of our neighbors if they had seen her.. we live out on 5acres outside of town, so we had to drive to our neighbors.. We went and talked to a few of them, and no one had seen her. So we drove up and down the road, but there was nothing out there that looked like road kill.. thank goodnesss... We went out looking for her again this morning, but still no luck.. Its just not like Jewel to wander off and not come back.. She always comes back. I just keep thinking that if something hadnt happened to her she would be back by now, but shes not.. Im just soo worried that the cyotes got her, or she got hit by a car or something..

We have:
Asked neighbors
Drove around looking
Put up fliers around the neighborhood
Put up fliers in town at tack shops and the vets office..

Does anyone have any new ideas that might help us find her?? Any ideas are greaty appricated!! Thank you!!

Have you checked with your local animal shelters? Even if they are way outside of your town, many dogs can be picked up or delivered to them when found. I'm so sorry to hear this news, I hope she returns to you soon. Good luck!

I understand your grief right now and I grieve with you.

But I simply have to say, over and over, working in vet offices for so many years, I have heard the same refrain. " She NEVER goes away ! He NEVER leaves the front porch ! We have acres.. we can't fence it all ! Those damm drivers go too fast down this road! It was a hit and run ! " etc, etc, etc.

PLEASE... before you get your next dog. Build a yard for the dog ! No dog should be out roaming onto roads, no matter where you live.

I'm soooo sorry you lost your lab. We have a rescued lab that we love dearly - she's 4 yrs old. We lived on a farm (before moving) and Keno was NEVER allowed outside by herself except to run up on the hill behind the house to potty.

She went out and stayed with us when we were outside. We never had a fence, chained her outside, etc. Too close to the highway to take that chance.

When we went to the field on the other side of the highway she was on leash - and never allowed off leash till we got to the other side.

So if you get another dog do not allow him/her to roam free unless you are right there. Its expensive to have to fence in part of a farm for your dog. If you want her to have some alone time to sit outside then build a large run and let her out there for awhile. But its more fun just to take them out and have some play time or training time without a fence.

Unhappy I sorry to hear it.

I definately know how you feel. I live on a 20 acre farm with two dogs. I would probebly have more, but living on a highway is horible to animals. I share your saddness with you, and I'll send you virtual tissuses if that would make you feel better. Sorry, I don't cope well with saddness.
But I have lost many dogs and cats out here, so now we have a kennel for my puppy. Although you may be gone a long time during the day, I would consider this for your next dog. Biuld a fairly good-sized kennel, and stick a dog house, bowl of water and food, and some toys in there and they'll do just fine. It works great! Maybe then you'll not have to watch them constantly or keep them cooped up inside.
Just an idea. Thanxs for your time listening to what I had to say.

Thanks everyone She was only 8, but she acted as though she was 100. She had hip problems, and was way over weight, but when we moved she slowly started growing younger again.. Like she would run around with our puppy, Daisy, and play with her and jump in the back of the trailer and ride around with my dad. She never really went anywere when we let her out. Once we accidently forgot to put her in the house before we left, and we were gone for a few hours, and we got home and she was sitting on the porch. But then the one day we let her out for like 10min she just decides to walk off, and she gets hit.. Im just sooo mad at the person who hit her, they didnt stop, they just kept going. And it wasnt like Jewel was a small dog, she was 80lbs so i think you would know if you hit her. A few days eairler we had even put chicken wire up on the front and back gates so we could leave her out when we were at school and my parents were at work. The gate wasnt closed though..

We have a 1yr old choco lab, Daisy, we have a shock collar on her so she can run around the yard and stuff, but cant get out into the road. Shes in a bit of a depression, as well as me, right now. Shes been eating and drinking fine, but you can just tell that she isnt really her self. Im kinda worried about her, but im sure shell be fine..

Thanks for the support everyone! It really means a lot to me! Thanks so much!
