would we like each other?

So I was thinking, if we met each other on the streets with or without our dogs would we like each other???. We all talk about our common interests and are able to build relationships through laughs and stories about our much beloved pets. I wonder how many of us would be friends if we lived close by???. Since being on this forum I have looked at a few breeds differently just because I think of people on here when I see someone walking one or playing with their dog. I am sure some people would like each other and some, not so much. Just was thinking about that. I know, I am weird. LOL

Re: would we like each other?

I understand you Inga.

From the nice things people have told me through the years in my real life makes me think that I am pretty personable. I would like to think we all would get along great. But, reality kind of takes that and squashes that. I think some people would probably go in with preconcieved judgements and wont bend from them once meeting others. But theres one in every crowd as they say. All in All.. I would love to meet all of you and your doggies for sure.

Re: would we like each other?

On my own forum, there's a been a load of people who've met in real life. I had a party four years ago with about 2 dozen forum members in my tiny little house. People drove or flew in from as far as New Orleans, Calgary, Chicago... A number of members get together regularly and are best of buds. And a few have met, fallen in love, and gotten married. Even a few kids and more kids on the way! They call me their pimp.

So... yes, I firmly believe that the connections you make with people online can carry over to offline.

But I'm not sure people would like Beavis as much in person as they do online. He can be a little brat.

Re: would we like each other?

I would LOVE to live closer to a lot of you!! Inga, digit, MDawn, LMH, ellasmom, chrissy, 4dogs3cats-just to name a few!! Crazy that all we have is writing and some pictures, but from the conversations we've had I would LOVE to meet you guys!! We should have a DF reunion or something!! haha
I think we should go and see Chrissy, though, if we go anywhere-looks beautiful and hot where she is...I need to get away from all of this snow!
Inga- where do you live? I don't think I know...anyway, I love you guys and you have been my sanity over the past month or so...Thank You!

Re: would we like each other?

It's a rare day when I see another person walking their dog and not say hi. I normally would not speak to people out on a walk, but if there is anything my dog does do for me its open me up to strangers with dogs. If talking about our dogs is all that we have in common, I'm happy about that, and that's enough for me to call someone a friend.

Re: would we like each other?

I am more likeable in person than in the forums because I find it easier to express myself when I am typing the words and its hard to control my mind when my hand starts typing what I am thinking. While in person, I am always embarrassed to say negative things and I always strive to please others. I can be very shy at times but I am always told that I have the personality of an angel, I dont know if they are just bullS***ing me or if they are telling the truth. I can be a bitch sometimes but only when I am PMSing. (Tell me any female who isn't.) But more often than not, I want to believe I behave like an angel. Just look at my pictures, dont I look like an angel???

I think you will like me INGA and digitsmama.

Re: would we like each other?

Inga, I am involved, though not to the extent that I used to be, in a forum for professional picture framers.

I got to know a few of the other members on the forum and we started participating in late-night instant messaging chats and laugh so much it hurt.

These people are spread around the country but some of us have travelled great distances to actually meet one-another. I count some of them among my closest friends.

Now I think professional picture framing is not as strong a link as, say, our love for our dogs.

I'm quite sure I would like most of you quite a lot in person.

One of the things I love about my new home town is that nearly everyone here seems to have one or more dogs and they are all out walking them. If I happen to be out in the front yard or doing some work on the porch, they'll stop and visit. There are very few true dog lovers that I don't like immensely.

I think a DF meetup is an excellent idea! And I can personally attest to the validity of online relationships...I met my boyfriend online ten years ago. We've been dating for nearly seven of those years. Online chemistry is definitely indicative of offline friendship!

Re: would we like each other?

I am in Wisconsin and I cannot recommend the weather here lately. LOL Alright, that is it! When I win the lottery I will pay for everyones ticket to go to Chrissy's She will have to promise to de-and, de-snake and de-spider my room though. LOL I want to run on the 6000 acre property with my dogs. LOL I agree Curb, if the person has a dog, we can be friends. I have friends that laugh at me and say I could strike up a conversation with a wall. I always talk to people on walks. Yes, some of them look at me like I am nuts. I hate the idea of walking past someone without acknowledge that I saw them or something. That is why I am a big hater of cell phones. I have so often thought someone was talking to me and I start talking to them then realize they are talking on a cell phone. LOL

Re: would we like each other?

I would hope we'd get along as a group. I'd like any of you that Kim likes . Really though, how many of us *wouldn't* enjoy getting together and talking about dogs? LOL, especially if we were in Belize, as Sugar Daddy Otis suggested (great idea!). Talking about dogs with people I already like while sitting in paradise. Yeah, that would be excellent

To be honest, in real life I think I'm less...abrasive. I hope so anyway . This forum has an amazing sense of community that I'd love to think everyone would have a great time together.

If that doesn't work we could all meet at our apartment. We all better get along really well though, because we'd have to sit in each other's laps just to fit in the door.

Re: would we like each other?

I would love to go on a DF get together as well. I really like everyone here and I agree with Shaina, what day would be greater than one spent with people who has the same interests as yourself??? Talking about dogs and their funny antics the whole day would be amazing.

Re: would we like each other?

This is a bit delicate but I think what would prevent any kind of face-to-face meeting between groups of dogforum members is a concern for Internet privacy.

What made it work for the picture framers is we all had real names, professional affiliations and, usually other professionals who could vouch for us.

I understand the concerns on a public forum but I was a little startled when I got here and NOBODY used even their first name.

It's a little hard to warm up to a stranger when you only know them as ****iloveminiaturedacshundsandi'mokaywithcockerspa niels***

Re: would we like each other?

I'm sure I would get along with many of the people here on DF if I ever met them. I'm a member of a few forums and have met up with a few people, who have become pretty close friends now. One even from Quebec (about 10 hours away) who has driven here twice and stayed for 3 and 5 days. Some from my own town too, and we often get together with our dogs on days out, even went to a dog show with one of them.

I hope some day to run into some members near me. I DEMAND some kind of meetup in my state! Colorado NEVER has meetups!!

And as far as real names... Cheetah is one of my REAL nicknames lmao... I've got friends who I've known for years, offline and on (who I've met in person etc.) who actually do call me Cheetah, even knowing my real name lmfao...

Myeah, that's true. The only way would be to meet somewhere neutral (just like dogs are supposed to meet ). Even then, a public forum's kinda different. I think most people are just referring to the "regulars", if such a thing exists. Although making that distinction poses problems in and of themselves.

Random question: have you mods ever met in real life? How did you even get to know each other?

Re: would we like each other?

When I got divorced from my first wife, I lived online. Gaming. I got involved in what games call a clan. Most clans live to play a particular online game. Tournaments and practice and stuff. While we did play in tournaments, we pretty much just played whatever together and bs'd together. I got into a clan of about 100 people at the time. The core group all lived in San Francisco. Each year they have a get together out there. Then we started having one in New York City as well and in the Pocanos. That was about 9 years ago, and many of them are my best friends to this day. We had an IRC channel that at any given time had 50 people in it. Fun stuff.

Nope. Wouldn't know any of them if they showed up at my doorstep.

That way, if any of us are ever captured by, say, a cat forum, we won't be able to divulge any secrets about the others.

It's for our own protection.

Isn't that the truth tho, I am a much more outgoing person when my dogs are with me or when I meet someone else out with their dogs. On my own I'm more reserved, almost shy
