I want a horse drawn carriage

Today my apartment place has a horse drawn carriage (by 2 Clydesdales <3) with sleigh bells going around our neighborhoods (all owned by the same people). IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS! In a good way (sorta). I don't have the money to go for a ride on it and all I wanna do is pet the horses! Everytime they pass by (I hear them) I jump up to get a look at those beautiful horses. I'm guessing there are 2 carriages because the road is too long for them to go by so often.

Clydesdales are my second favorite horse breed (first being the Shires).

I have been on a horse drawn carriage once before (1 Clydesdale was pulling it) and it was fun. Has anyone been in a horse drawn carriage? Or even better, anyone ever ride a Clydesdale or any other draft horse breed?

Re: I want a horse drawn carriage

I don't know if it counts, but I rode in an Amish buggy once, many many years ago...

One of these days I'm going to make it out to my better half's cousins'. I have a standing invitation to ride their Belgian, which of course isn't as *huge* and flashy as a Clydesdale, but would still be fun...I've mostly ridden Arabians and half-Arabians in the past, so it will probably seem big and steady to me haha

My personal *dream horse* is an Andalusian and/or a Friesian...though I will always love the Arabian personality...I've just spent too long learning to love it I think haha. I freely admit I know very little about Friesian personalities, so I shouldn't get one without some serious education...they are just gorgeous in an entirely different way than the Arabian

I rode a Percheron once. He was so huge I had a problem getting my legs around him.

He was a sweetheart. Very smooth gait. Sitting up there on top of him I felt like I was on top of the world.

Haha, thats so cool. I had to learn a few of the more common breeds for my Large Animal class in school. I learned Belgians are the tallest of the draft breeds and the Percheron is the shortest stockiest of the draft breeds.

I like the draft breeds because they are so calm, and being so big I'm glad they're so calm!

Re: I want a horse drawn carriage

When I visited Neuschwanstein, it was pouring down rain and it's a long hike up and down to the castle. We took a horse drawn carriage going down and I will be forever thankful for those horses! It was freezing and as I said, pouring down rain....the ride was nice!

HELLO?! You didn't get pictures?!

I'm so jealous! ;_; They don't even plow the roads here, much less bring through a horse-drawn carriage. ;_;

If I remember my 'horse talk' correctly - the draft breeds are the 'cold blooded' horses. - generally very calm, quiet horses. Not too much rattles them.
