That's awesome! It's always good to hear when people stop smoking. At least it is to me.

Re: just wanted to share

YAY!!!!! Congratulations!!

I smoke and would really like to quit. My dad had lung cancer (2nd bout with it) and is now going through chemo. He begged me to stop smoking after he had his first surgery and I promised him that I would. I'm having some trouble with it as I've tried to quit several times, the longest being 3 months. Hopefully, one of these days I'll finally be able to kick the habit.

Did you have any tips for us smokers that might help us quit also?

well, i can tell you that i tried cold turkey, and i tried weening myself off of it. but i couldn't do it on my own. i finally went to the doctor and got a RX for Zyban. (i'm on military insurance though, so the RX didn't cost me anything. i have no idea how much it would cost.) i was suppose to be taking it for a month, but after like, 2 weeks, i no longer had cravings.

so i guess my advice to you is looking into getting and RX. i used Zyban, i've heard Welbutrine works too. and there's also Chantix (but i think that ones really expensive)

Re: just wanted to share

My hubby and I are in the process ourselves, we're both taking Chantix and it works, but the nausea... ugh... Is Zyban better? 15 years of smoking makes it not so easy to quit... Congrats to you though!!! Yea 3 months!!!

Re: just wanted to share

I'm one of those people that most smokers hate. I've always been a casual smoker, never got addicted even after years of smoking.

For me I found it was more of a habit than anything. I would have one in the morning, one when I was waiting around not doing anything, one when I had a break, one when I got in my car etc.

I never liked the lingering smell though. It stays on your hands, in your hair, on your clothes, on your breath even after you shower and brush your teeth.

What really got me to quit forever was after not smoking for a few months I walked by a woman who was obviously a chain smoker in the mall. The smell was disgusting! Since then I've never looked back. I don't think you really notice the smell as much when you're a smoker but obviously the people around you do. ICK!

The other thing that helped is when I first started smokting I didn't smoke for a long time and had a pack of smokes go stale. I pulled one out for a quick smoke break, took one drag, and almost puked it tasted so bad. Ever since then I can't forget that taste. So there ya go... buy a pack and let it go stale lol

I admit I still like to have the occasional cig maybe a few times a year if I'm having a drink, but for the most part I don't miss it.

Another thing that might help is my mother bought me some herbal cigs she found at a health food store once. Probably the most disgusting cig out there.
