Sounda like he was dreaming. It's pretty common for dogs to dream. I find it pretty amusing when they are vocal in their sleep, and especially when their little paws flip back and forth like they're running. I'm sure everything is just fine.

My dogs both do this

I am wary about waking them up if they are making movements or sounds just because - if I scare them they might react out of charachter: especially my flat coated retriever. He's 17 this month, and as deaf as can be - He spooks pretty easily if you sneak up on him, and I think waking him up out of a deep sleep would be a pretty good way to scare him!

My dog twitches and whines, and his feet move...
We always said that he's dreaming about running

Talking Sleepig is the funnest part of my day!

When my dog sleeps, she twitches her feet and her tail, and bares her teeth. Sometimes shell lick her lips or growl. But it is bazar that one time when she just hopped up and chaced her ball that wasn't even moving. She just bounced right out of sleep like she was playing dead or something! Or when she just has spaz attacks when she sleeps, then wakes up and goes to th living room to watch T.V. with my parents.
Dogs are hillarious when they sleep!

My old dog, late in her life, started HOWLING in her sleep. She never howled while awake, in fact had a big, deep, pretty terrifying bark (that she used alot). I don't think I ever once heard her howl in her waking moments...the closest she ever came was her silly talking she'd do when she was excited. But this howl in her sleep was so eery, so primal, it scared the crap out of me!!!! Always woke me up, and I always felt the need to wake her up...I was always afraid she was having a nightmare or a sad dream
