| Phobias/Fears I was thinking about doing a thread last night about yalls phobias, but never got around to it til this morning.
So tell me and everyone else here you're phobias and why you're scared of that certain thing(s). Unless its personal and you don't feel the need to tell everyone. My phobias: 1- clowns, i am scared to death of them. They seem to always be in horror movies and I get scared if I see one ANYWHERE. 2- People dressed up in mask, If I can't see your face then I don't know who you are and that scares me. (personal experience)- I had a boy who lived across the street from my nana's house when I was about 8 and he dressed up in a devil outfit for halloween but had a scream mask on, well he thought it would be funny to come up behind me ( I was dressed up as a Black Cat) and grab my throat and shake me. Every since then I haven't been trick-or-treating or liked mask. I'm 16 now if that gives you an indication. 3- SPIDERS!, I am scared sh!tless of these little creatures. i can't even watch a movie or see a photo of them without screaming! I had one crawl on me last night while I was outside on the phone and I dropped my phone, screamed a million bad words, and hauled butt back into my house forgetting my phone was on the ground outside. I decided to be brave and go get my phone, haha. 4- Ocean and Sharks, The only reason I'm scared of the ocean is because I almost drowned when I was 7, and I still can't go into the ocean. Sharks because they are these HUGE, scarey looking animals. I think they are beautiful creatures but Lord knows I won't touch one or come close to one. 5- Men, any kind of man. (For a reason I'd like to keep to myself). The only men I like are the ones in my family. |

| Re: Phobias/Fears Wow, you have a lot of fears. The fear of men, now that can be a good thing. I'm also freaked out by spiders but not nearly that much, if a bug suddenly comes near me, I'll scream, but if it gradually crawls I think they are interesting.
Okay so I'm afraid of...
1. speaking in front of a crowd, or singing.
I'm terrified, the worst, yet I'm not shy at all, people interpret me to be shy, but once I know you I'm deffinately not shy, it's just in front of a lot of people I'm not close to. I like freeze up. I can't even give speeches in school.
2. Rejection.
Not just by guys, but in general. I really strive for people to like me. I'm also not the least bit judgmental. Most of my friends are what others consider 'out casts' I find them very meaningful to be with. Other friends are popular, it just varies. As far as guys go, I've never asked one I cared about to dance, to date, or anything. I just can't....so those are mine. |

I knew I forgot one. I remember my first speech in front of a crowd. I was in 7th grade and at a FFA meeting (Future Farmers Of America), and I had to read a paper I wrote. The president of the club made everyone write a paper on how they felt about FFA and how they thought FFA would help them now and in the future, I came in 2nd place. The top 5 people had to read their papers. well anyways, I got up in front of everyone and I started freaking out. I fainted right then and there. I had to go to the nurse and she said i almost went into shock for having to stand up there. She said my heart rate had almost doubled, I was shaking, and that if I would've been laying down on the floor passed out any longer I would've had to go to the ER. I got to sit the nurses office til my mom came to pick me up and I didn't have school the rest of the day (the good thing haha). but my mom took me to the doctor and the doc said I was fine.
But the fear of men is horrible for me. I'm so scared of men I won't go ANYWHERE alone, not into a store or a park or anything, without my dad or girlfriend. I always have someone with me. When I was younger I had a grown man come up to me and ask if I would have sex with him, thats when it started and every since then its gotten worse with my fear, and I've had more things happen towards me with men. Its horrible. Wow it feels good to get all of that out. |

| Re: Phobias/Fears I have a severe issue with heights, and I remember why. I was just a kid and we were visiting the Mercer Museum in Philly. The inside is stories high, with stairs that wind around to each room to the top (the place was like MC Escher designed it.) My brother kept making like he was going to push me off to the floor below, and some of the stair rails were flimsy. I was terrified and trying not to cry.
Since then I can't stand open stairs or looking down from far up. My legs get wobbly and I'll grab on to the rail like I can't trust my own two feet, and I'll get vertigo.
I'm a little bit better now. I stare at the stair I need to step on and concentrate on move left foot, move right foot, move! On Saturday we sat in the nosebleed section at a hockey game, where the seats were narrow and up high and it was freaky looking down.
I believe in addressing and trying to overcome phobias, though that's easier said than done. I did tackle a set of long, narrow open stairs off a cliff to a lake. I white-knuckle wobbled all the way down and up and almost ripped the arm off the person I was clinging on to, but I made it. But that was as smart as tossing a tarantula onto an arachnophobe.
Speaking of spiders, I had a tarantula as a pet when I was little, and I have tarantulas now. I dated a guy who was so arachnophobic that the mere mention of spiders made him want to pass out.
Dakotah,
I'm terribly sorry about your phobia of men. It seems debilitating. I know someone who was in a similar situation and was able to overcome it - I'd like her to write you something and I can PM it to you if you'd like to be inspired. |

| Re: Phobias/Fears 1. Running out of toilet paper. Self explanatory.
2. Parachutes packed by others. Self explanatory.
3. Answering the telephone on the first ring. Gotta give it a few rings before you catch a vibe, ya know.
4. Neighbors that don't clean up after their animals in the common yards. Elsa's mines are one thing. Unknowingly stepping in the neighbors is down right scary.
5. Worrying about fears. As imaginative as minds are, worrying about things that are out of our control, can be exhausting. |

| Re: Phobias/Fears Tornado's, I have never seen one in person but they just scare me. The last one we had last year was so close I could hear it.
Going into deep water, when I was younger I jumped in the 10ft level of water at the pool which was right next to the lifeguard station so I figured if anything happened I'd be ok. So I jumped in and went to grab the edge as I always had but it was slippery and I missed and I sunk to the bottom and I had to fight for my way up and I was taking in water. I got out on my own and the life guard never did anything. He didn't even do anything when I jumped out and was on my hands and knee's coughing up water.
Wild rides, such as roller coasters and scary rides because I was never exposed to them as a child so I am afraid to go on them. |

| Re: Phobias/Fears I was scared of airplanes as well because it was the first time I rode one and we were going to florida and the plane was having problems with its engines and it couldn't get off the ground and they tried 3 times and it scared me because what if we got off the ground but crashed back down. We were supposed to leave for florida at 1pm but we didn't leave till 6pm and we had to stop in another state and wait an hour and then catch another plane. We didn't get to florida till 2am! |

Hmm, let's see. I try to take things in stride and always be cautiously open to all situations. I do have a bit of a fear of heights (well, it's more a fear of FALLING from somewhere high than heights themselves), but I can handle it. I climbed a Mayan pyramid in Mexico last winter even though every fiber in my body was shaking and I must admit--the photos I took up there are just amazing (I didn't really enjoy the sight while I was up there, though, haha, but I sure like the pictures now that I'm back on solid ground).
Otherwise, I have this terrible fear of vomit (human vomit; I've gotten used to Zoe vomit). Like in college, I used to not drink more than like 1 glass of water all weekend because I didn't want to have to pee in the dorm bathrooms at night because I was afraid of drunk people coming in and throwing up. I guess the major fear would be that I'll be in a stall and someone will throw up outside my door and hence I'll be trapped in the stall, unable to move because the puke is blocking my only exit.
Where does this fear stem from? I would imagine it has to do with the TERRIBLE stomach bugs I got as a child--most people got those in school, threw up a few times and was fine the next day. Oh no, not me. I'd throw up every 20 minutes for 18 hours straight. I believe every time I got sick as a child, I was like 20 minutes away from going to the ER needed fluids pumped into me before I died of dehydration...and whenever I got to that point, majically, the next time I tried to drink something, I would finally keep it down. I would imagine that anyone having past vomiting experiences like that has a right to be deathly afraid of vomit, right? And really, it's not a big deal anymore because once I got my own bathroom and especially now that I'm not a college student anymore, I don't come into contact with vomit very much anymore!
Well, since you brought it up, I had to give my phobia with full explanation, even though it's disgusting, hah!
I'll conclude by attaching pictures from the pyramid I so bravely climbed in Coba, Mexico. First is the actual pyramid, second is a shot looking down (to gauge how ridiculously steep it was) and third is a picture looking out way over the forests of Mexico. |

| Re: Phobias/Fears 1. Spiders I just don't like them. I guess I could just MAYBE overcome this fear since it’s not a fear where I cry and shake. The bigger (or the smaller) they are, the worse I am about them. I can pick up and play with Daddy Long Legs but anything smaller or bigger then that yuck....
2. Thunderstorms. I hate the lightening in thunderstorms, and I get scared sick if I'm not near a computer or TV to see if the storm is severe and what to expect. Tornado warnings make me want to cry but at the same time I'm outside looking for it. I think i'm scared of the unknown in thunderstorms.
3. I fear loosing a love one. I will cry even if I think about it. I start to shake and just stream tears.
4. The dark. Yes I am scared of the dark. My heart beats really fast, my brain plays tricks on me and I just hate it. I can sleep in the dark, and walk around in a dark house, but walking around in the dark freaks be out, more so outside where I can't see if I'm being followed by someone or some animal.... *shivers*
oh and heights.... I can't stand heights, but I'm a lot better with them then I use to be.
I always try to over come my fears when I have too. I never let them run my life if I can allow it. Lifes just to darn short to be ran by fear |

| Re: Phobias/Fears 1) Spiders- I have had severe reactions to spider bites in the past and went through a lot to try to heal from the reactions. I can't say I am phobic but I REALLY don't like them.
2) Rodents The freak me out when they go scurrying away when you least expect them. Like in the garage when I move something and one runs out. I know it is freaking as bad as I am and that it is completely ridiculous but I can't help it. I once ran into a metal latch that was on a door running away from a mouse and ended up needing medical attention from my injury. When asked what happened I answered "It was a mouse." They were going to sign me up for Rabies shots I think. I had to tell the whole story and I was very embarrassed.
3) Not to excited about heights either. Though I love the view from high places. I know it makes no sense. I have already told everyone I am weird. Better weird then boring. LOL |

| Re: Phobias/Fears I have OCD and I'm afriad of something terrible happening. So bad sometimes I've had to stay up all night because a light bulb outside was out. I brought up OCD because it's pretty much come from the fright of something bad happening to me or my family. So bad I have gotten into the routine of checking things. A few days ago I made a list of stuff I do before bed any it's a page and a half long.
Spiders - I was bit by a brown recluse about 6-7 years ago and have never gotten past the thought of it happening again. I have a scar about the size of a dime on the back of my leg. I cought the bite before it got so bad I los part of my leg. I had to go in and get the inside of my leg flushed and scrapped to make sure they got all of the bacteria out. I could of cared less about spiders before and now a tiny little jumpy spider will freak me out. I have thoughts of colonies of them living behind my bed. yuck!!
Snakes - When I was really little I lived by a pond and when I went out walking behind the house with one of my sisters we stumbled apon a water moccasin. A very venomous snake and it's left me with a thought of something happening. I stepped on a snake a few years later in a creek. I no longer will go in a lake, ocean, creek, river.. pretty much any larger body of water. Other than our pool that is.
That is pretty much it. |

| Re: Phobias/Fears 1) Tornadoes and/or major big storms/natural disasters - can't think of a reason why, but even when there is a very minor watch, I freak. I start shaking and sweating and worrying and most of the time I just make myself go to sleep to get away from it.
2) Chainsaws - can't explain this one either. Obviously I'm gun shy and not a big fan of knives, but chainsaws really make me tremble. When I'm walking Cassie, I often come across people with leaf blowers and I jump everytime since they sound like chainsaws.
And I also claim to being afraid of heights, but I'm confused about that, lol. I don't mind being on top of a mountain, the top of a tower, a roller coaster, etc...but being on the second story of a mall and looking down gives me the creeps. Also, has anyone been to Valhalla? OMG!! Those stairs....wow. I almost fainted when I got up there and looked down. |

| Agree with spiders. Snakes for me? Nah, I just belive there the devil. I was at an family outting and my uncle was there because hes my uncle lol and he makes me madder then anything, he personally talks about things I dont like just to cause fights. He even did that with my mom. He makes a fool of himself. Like one time he said GetGo gas from Giant eagle was stupid. Now he's using it lol. Well everyone in my family knows im an Anti huntiest and they dont talk about hunting becasue I can be a nasty girl when they start talking about things I dont like, I really let them have it well anyway, my uncle started that disction and it spirled into snakes and how he wanted to save all the snakes. Well a snake went past and he started saying look at this snake, well his grand kids were there. They were all admiring this snake, I went up and stepped on it and killed it still blood was pouring out. The kids started crying and my uncle was like WTHeck and the kids started crying and I said get over it, its just a snake they said something and I said well thats for all the poor innocent deer and foxes you killed did you think how I felt about that? Well now you know how it fells.
