| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I don't think Cooper would let me put anything on him. I bought a harness for him for walks and I got it on him and he wouldn't move, he stood solid and gave me a look like "get this *%$#^ thing off me!" So, Cooper has no clothes.
Now, my brother is bringing home an 8 week old Boston Terrier this weekend and will be putting a coat on him for potty time. He lives in Watertown, NY so it gets very, very cold there. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I think the way Paris Hilton dresses her dogs is offensive because it exemplifies how she treats her pets - as interchangeable, disposable fashion accessories, not living creatures who she's responsible for.
But not everyone who dresses their dogs has the same attitude. Besides all the reasons for inclement weather, sometimes bandannas or sweaters or costumes, etc. are good conversation starters. When Gemmie was new to us she was shy around strangers on the street, but we noticed when she started wearing designer bandannas she enjoyed the attention they got her. So we started "dressing" her in different colors and patterns so she could get admired, and that helped her get used to having people approach her in a positive way. She's almost 10 years old now, and every morning when I say "let's find a pretty kerchief!" she goes to the cupboard where we keep them. It's a girl thing. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I plan on getting a Chihuahua or a Papillon in the near future, and I WILL put a coat on them during the winter. I live in North Georgia and we get hot summers and cold cold winters. I HATE the cold and I'm pretty sure a Chihuahua with its little bitty body and hardly no haired-self would HATE it to.
But I do agree that I wont have a million-in-one outfits for my doggy. But I will have Halloween costumes and maybe a little outfit or 2. My Best Friend has a Pomeranian (SP?) and she is not as fluffy as most Poms are, and she has quite a few outfits for her Pom but not so much that she has one for everyday of the week, like Paris Hilton would have, I guess. ( My BFF lives further up in North GA than I do so it gets pretty chilly).
I believe there is a extent of dressing your dog up, but if its cold and the dog NEEDS protect then its great.
Thats my 2 cent! haha. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I actually happen to think clothes are a really good idea for dogs. I don't have a dog now (but I'm about to get one) but my old dog loved being dressed up for Halloween. She was a pirate one year! Anyway, I don't think it's cruel at all. I mean obviously I'm not going to put a sweater on them in August, but a cute T-shirt is nice. I had these two matching ones where the person's said "My dog's cuter than your dog" and the dog's said "My owner's cuter than your owner" Isn't that adorable? My point is, doggie clothes being cruel usually depend on the dog's personality, not all dogs in general. Some dogs hate it or could be hurt by it, but other dogs love it! Peace! |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! didn't get a chance to read all the replys (up to page 6 then I gave up, lol)
my opinion:
I HATED dog clothes when I owned a rottweiler, cocker spaniel/terrier mix, Border Collie but now I own a boston terrier. She has a hoodie because its the only realistic thing I found that was priced under $20 and wasn't god ugly. She LOVES it, its funny as all heck as she does this little prance thing. I made sure it was heavy enough to give her warmth without making her overly hot. Specific arm design so she can easily move around in it. She took christmas pictures with a antler style doggy hat, thats not cruel. She has a 'I'm the reason Santa has a naughty list' tshirt that she wears when we go to Petco.
I will agree though, it drives me nuts when people have their dogs with nail polish (like everyday, every once in a great while is ok, such as for a special occasion) any clothing for style vs function is what I think is cruel. It doesn't make sense for the dog to HAVE to be carried because he can't walk in the outfit. Thats just cruel.
Also Kari (my little boston baby) is going to be Spider man for halloween! I am never having kids so I guess that warps what I do to my dog but its fun and she's a goofy puppy who looks at me like 'da da dooonnee! spider-dog, spider-dog... does whatever spider dog.... look out, its a spider dog!' lmao |
