| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! The way I see it, if the dog tolerates the clothes, bling, etc.. and it doesn't pose a safety issue then go for it. I wouldn't force my yorkie to wear any jewlery, I mean he has a collar and tags, isn't THAT enough? He did wear a shirt this spring, as he was just barely 3 months old and in Colorado, and he will have a coat for winter to go out, but that is all. I could see putting dogs in those shoes for winter climates to keep the mud and ice from sticking in the hair between the pads of their feet, but only to be practical. Of course, when you are in the public eye, some feel the need to go above and beyond... |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I put bandannas on my dogs...I think it makes them look cute after getting groomed and spiffed up.
I also have a coat for Sophie...well I have to get a new one, as her's got nibbled on so I have to replace it before winter! She doesn't handle being out in the cold very well for very long, and I like to be able to have her outside with me to play and romp around; she does too, she just gets too chilly too fast without a jacket!! She lifts her front paws individually for me to put it on.
I also love dressing my dogs up for Halloween...it is so much fun, especially when little kids see them and their faces just LIGHT UP!!! They get so excited!
That said, I don't necessarily think that dressing a dog up is cruel; I think that not letting a dog live like a dog is cruel. Keep in mind that Paris's dog probably never gets to walk on her own legs!!! NOW that is cruel...she's little, but she's still a dog, let her run and play like a dog should! |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! My dogs each of two winter jackets.
A West Coast Coats "windbreaker" to wear underneath their harness for sledding and a thick Weatherbeeta for really cold days.
Roxy doesn't really *need* it although, it does get super cold here and I'm sure it enables her to stay out longer on our winter hikes, but Hades really does need a winter jacket. APBT have super short hair, and he's also pink skinned, so he has thin, super sensitive skin as well.
But the dog has a passion for sledding, so the jackets allow us to do what we love together longer. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I agree, as long as it isn't hot outside then I don't see the problem. But I will have to get Snoopy's hair trimmed down so when he wears it he doesn't over heat easily. Plus I think it will keep him from getting hot in his crate at night as of now I have to have a small desk fan placed by it to keep him from over heating. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I really do hate when people state that it's cruel for dogs to wear clothing.
Sure it's wrong if it's hot out or not made for a dog. If the clothing fits wrong and is uncomfortable then yes it is wrong. Personally my Shih Tzu has t-shirts and hoodies for winter. I make everything he wears and it is all fit for his body shape and size. It's also made for a dogs and the arm holes are different then a humans shirt.
I have nothing against people that don't agree with dressing a dog, but it's you're opinion that it's cruel. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! Yup, That is actually a few different dogs. They all appreciate looking their best. LOL The guy in the bow tie was not into whole suits so I respected his feelings on it and kept it simple with him. As I have stated in other posts the reasons for dressing mine up are usually for Therapy work or exhibitions. I know many people are afraid of Rottweilers. They tend to give up on some of that fear when they see a dog dressed up. It is a good way to break the ice. My Rotties spend most of their time trying to educate the public on what a breed can be in the right hands. LOL Quote:

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! Alvin has a couple little accessories he wears. He's got a set of those Party Collars for various holidays and a red baseball cap for dogs to wear when it gets too sunny. He's only got one eye and the other is losing its sight due to glaucoma, so the doggy ophthalmologist told us to really protect the remaining eye. Neither the collars nor the hat have bothered him.
I'm with Inga on a good use for dog clothes...they keep people from being scared of scary looking dogs. When I take Alvin for visits or walks in very public places, I make sure to put a friendly looking item on him so that people are less nervous of his big, black, one-eyed self. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I put a T-shirt on Jasper about six weeks after I got him, as he had an infected mole and he was licking it too much and I'd been told to keep the sun off it (not that this was really a problem, as that was the last time we saw the sun last summer...) - it was either that or a cone, so I reckoned that he'd be happier in a T-shirt. I just got a three year old's one and it didn't fit that well, but was pretty roomy, so he didn't seem to mind it too much.
Now he's gained condition and his coat looks so nice it would be a complete shame to cover it up! I'd even do without the collar if I wasn't afraid of losing him, even though he is microchipped as well. |

That night I had just finsihed making that hoodie and Teddie was just walking around like he always wore it. Buster just looked at him and sniffed him as if to say "you wuss" lol |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! My motto is whatever floats ya boat
As long as you and your dog like it then buy all the dog clothes you want!
I dont put on clothes on my dog,but you can be sure that this Halloween she WILL be wearing a costume! I just have to find one her size that we both like.
I live in Florida...
It never gets cold here so sweaters and jackets are pretty useless here anyway |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! Oh my gosh Tito has more clothes than I do and he loves them! and I do dress him to match me when go to the dog park so when he is running around I can point him out easier when they ask which one is mine and than they always remeber that he is mine.. He loves being dressed. It is rude to leave the house naked.. He even has boots for the winter so his little feet don't freeze! I love the hoodie on the little dog inga that is too too cute! |
