| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I do dress up my dogs on Haloween though. That's always fun. At GDA they have a haloween party, and they have a contest for best costume. This last year there was a big yellow lab, about sixteen months old, and he had on goggles, a two liter soda bottle on his back, and things on his paws and on his back that made it look like he had a wetsuit on. On his back, instead of "Guide Dogs of America, Puppy In Training," it said "Dive Dogs of America, Puppy In Training." |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I myself personally don't like dressing up dogs for fun. Amaya has long hair, but we have to keep her shaved down. When she goes outside she loves to roll around in stuff and gets leaves and such in her hair, and if we miss a piece it gets matted. So in the summer we have to watch her so she doesn't get sunburnt, because I've heard even dogs with hair can get sunburnt, esp white ones. When its raining, she wont go off the porch unless she has her rain coat on and mazie has really short hair so in the winter she gets a sweater. Paris is just pathetic though. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I agree 100%. I'm about the extreme having one of the thinnest coated breeds in one of the coldest climats. And guess what? Call me cruel, because she doesn't own a coat. Dogs in nature wouldn't have any more coat then god gave them. Dogs don't need coats. I'll make you a bet Jenny wouldn't like a coat, either, it would interfere with her running. She wears a bandana quite often, but she likes it and, as far as I know, everyone likes it. (even though some of the manly men pretend they don't )
I really don't see the need for some of these thick coated breeds in quote warm temperatures to be wearing clothes. But what bothers me more then coats is stupid, stupid STUPID things! Like dresses, skirts and tutus. Really! For heavens' sake, it's A DOG! If you want something to dress in clothes, here's 10 bucks, go buy a Barbie!
I don't really mind the one-time things, like halowe'en and such, so long as the dog doesn't mind wearing it. But everyday tut wearers drive me nuts!
Hope I'm not offending our tutu wearing pooches... |

It was about -40 this day...
It was about -45 this day...
And -45 again both these days...
Sorry, this is just my opinion, but you've just seen a greyhound in -45 weather. If she doesn't need a coat, I'm pretty sure not many of these coat-wearing dogs do. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! My vet tech school has coats for the greyhounds when they go outside during the winter. The rule is if you NEED a coat, so does the dog. And from the way they shiver, I believe they do need it. The coats look like the coats for horses, but the size for a dog. |

All people are different and all dogs are different. What if you get a hot person and a cold dog. They dog would be cold but the person would just say "oh, well I don't need a coat, so he'll be fine". Or vice versa.
I think a better rule to go by is if the dog is cold, the dog needs a coat. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! OK, I agree dogs are not fashion items, but in cold weather some benefit from a nice warm jacket. Others don't need them. I have jackets for my very wimpy Rottweilers since they seem to be cold when out for long in the cold. The older ones especially. I do also occasionally make them wear princess outfits, cowboy outfits, ladybug suit, clown suit, tuxedo etc.... but only for fairly short times. When doing demos. They seem to enjoy the attention they receive when they are wearing the clothes. You know they can't be mean if they are dressed like a ladybug. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! LOL ~ All six of mine have an entire wardrobe.
I do not dress them up in the house. But when we go out I usually do. I have rescue maltese, and no way can I keep them in show coat, so during the summer their bodies' are cut very short. They have very light pink skin, so I put a little summer-halter dress on the girls, to protect them from the sun. The boys have "manly" vests to match their "manly" belly bands ~ LOL
My Senior Girl loves her dresses. She seems to know when the latest fashion arrives. She can't wait to go for a walk. She also seems to shake her butt a little more
Not cruel, just a matter of preference, and comfort for the dog. Either way, no big deal. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! It's only wrong if your dog truly dislikes wearing clothes. I don't really see anything wrong with it otherwise...although I do think some outfits I've seen on dogs have been ridiculous looking (I saw one chihuahua wearing suspenders once...that was just weird!). Tank has a Hawaiian T-Shirt, a "Bitches Love Me" T-Shirt and a pair of Doggles. Not the most extensive wardrobe ever, and he doesn't mind wearing clothes at all. Henry has Doggles and I am going to get him a little winter coat or sweater because of his small size, he won't do well in the cold. It's more about practicality for me, but I see nothing wrong with people who do have full wardrobes for their dogs, as long as the dogs don't mind it. |

1. He has practicly no fat
2. it gets 32 Degrees or lower in winter where i'm at |

Hmm... I disagree. I think booties are fine. Because boots are not (nessesairily) fashion items. I don't like the fashion kind. But the hiking kind I'm fine with.
In fact, Jenny has boots. Our driveway is about 12 km long, so we don't shovel it (particularly because it snows here about 7-8 months of the year). Instead, we cover it in salt (which was NOT my idea.) Anyways, Jenny runs off leash on this salt a lot of the time. And when she runs in the forest, she often cuts her pads. Well, her wearing the boots either prevents her from cutting her pads and prevents them from stinging when she walks on the salt.
Maybe Jenny's just a strange dog, but I can't resist giggling when people say their dogs needs coats and sweaters when it gets to 30. Jenny (none of the dogs around here come to think of it ) never wear coats or sweaters and it's frequently -40 and colder here. -shrugs-
Just my opinion. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! Newman loves his T-Shirts I keep it pretty cool in the house about 74 degrees (so when his hair is gone they come in handy) . He also loves fleece blankets when he isn't in costume. Though it has never botherd him to wear clothes. |
