| OK here we go . I have an APBT that whears a cover when he goes out to potty. The temp falls in the -0's so to send him out in that is wrong . He wears a back cover like you put on a horse. He has no prob with it. Now I do think the whole going over board like Paris is mean . That is not a pet it is an excessary. |

| Here is when I put some kind of clothes on my dogs:
1) If it is hunting season and we are out walking in the woods I put a bright pink undershirt on Sophia so that she will not be mistkane for a deer (yes we have some really dumb hunters around here). She used to have a bright orange safety vets but she lost it.
2) If there is a lot of snow out. Sophia loves to roll in it and she does not get cold, but the problem is that the snow melts on her fur and then freezes again. It doesn't take long for her to get huge ice balls (like 2" diameter) hanging off the fur on her rear and between her legs. Not fun.
3) If there is snow cover and it is really cold (like -25 or less) then Zircon gets a brightly colored sweater or something. He is white so he is hard to see when there is snow on the ground. He does not mind since he has thin fur.
Other than that I put costumes on them for Halloween when we visit patients in a nursing home because it brightens their day (the people, not the dogs). |

| Actually, dog clothing provides protection in several ways. In summer, dogs with thin coats can sunburn, a tee shirt can help to prevent this. Another great benefit is in pest control for your pet. Wearing a shirt can help repel fleas, ticks and mosquitos, especially if the shirt is sprayed with a repellant (rather than the dog!) And you don't have to worry about chemical residue on your pet getting into your home or your dog licking it off his coat.--Just wash the shirt! |

| It really depends on why you are putting things on them. If it is b/c it is cute and not to keep them warm then yes that is a stupid reason. Now if it is for anouther reason. TO keep the dog/animal warm to keep a certain coat length then no.
I had a dog Wothless she would beg for her winter coat when she want out. She was a short haired pointer and never really got a winter coat so she loved her blankie. Same with my old broodmare. If it gets really cold or raining she will give me a look to say I want my blankie on and she gets it. I also blanket my show horses to keep them from growning a winter coat but that is a differnt thing all togather.
Would just really depend.

| PLEASE DO NOT SKIP OVER THIS WHEN YOU READ THANX
This is why I love thise site. you get so many thought and opinions out of topics that most wouldn't ever come to thought. So many facts too. Like the whole different-clothes-have-different-purposes stuff. Not all dogs need them, but some do. Like the first thing I thought about the whole wearing a t-shirt to prevent sun burns. A chinese-vrest would benifit from this because they haveno fur to keep them from the sun. But on the other hand I hope I would never see a Malamute wearing anything to keep it warm or to keep it from sun damage. And as far as sweaters go; I know of a few poodles that love their sweaters because it keeps them nice and wearm. But Akita's or Elkhounds don't need to be wearing sweaters because that's what they have dense, thick fur for. So many ups and downs when it somes to this sorta stuff. Cool huh? Now this is just me, but you would never catch my dogs in sweaters or painted nails ect.
And something that not all people think about, is that dogs aren't the only ones who wear that stuff. Horses wear blankets to keep them clean and warm. I put my 4-H sheep in thin nylon to keep them clean before show. And I most certainly woundn't do any of this if my animals wouldn't approve.
But it is something for everyone to think about when they post here.
Thanks for reading this horribly long post. i thought it would be very inportant. |

| Ok I didn't read through all the posts, but here's my opinion on it.
Unless the clothing is to protect the dog from the elements, I think it is ridiculous. I saw a Chihuahua in the summer in a hot pink frilly dress, a rhinestone collar that had so much "bling" on it that the dog couldn't lift her head up fully, and hot pink sunglasses to match. I was appauled.
A bandana and small little things like that, I don't mind at all, no biggie. But whole outfits, dresses....etc......that's going to far, they are DOGS, NOT DOLLS!!!
I guess I can let go people dressing up their dogs a bit for halloween, a one day a year thing, but I personally have never done it.
I've seen so many dogs "dressed up", and they honestly look miserable. It also restricts movement a lot of times, and I've seen a Beagle that actually had chaffing and sores under it's armpits where the clothing had rubbed her raw. |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! I thinkt that depending on the doggy...wearing a coat , sweater or T-shirt in certain weathers are okay..but paris is just ridicoulous .If your dog hates it don't put it..yes collors they need to get used to..but thats different...

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! Well, clothes are ok if they have a purpose. My cat is a Siamese and has a very short smooth coat. So during this past winter with all the snow and freezing temps. I put Lily in a purple sweater...She doesnt like it so she only has it on when she in her crate during travel (in the car or walking to the car or from the car to the building). She also has a shirt that I thought was cute (it says "Cute but evil"!) so I got it for her....she hated it so she doesnt wear it anymore.
Here she is wearing it looking mad... |

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! Well, I think it's not ery good when you dress up a dog on a hot day, and you're basically treating your dog like another one of your accessories, but as for dressing up a dog that you LOVE. well, that's different. One, if you love your dog, you wouldn't ever put clothes on it that would make it uncomfortable. Two, you wouldn't be putting the clothes on it to make whatever you're wearing look better. As people have been saying, it's great to put jackets and stuff on them when it's cold outside, and why not let the jackets be something that looks nice? I would love to get one of those doggy tee shirts for Blitz, but since he wears his vest every time he goes out, it wouldn't make much sense. I think that dog clothes are cute, as long as you're not using your dog as an accessory. |

Lily is an amazing cat and I have been told that more than once by people who have met her. And let me tell you the key to having a great cat (if you ever get one), SOCIALIZATION! A lot of people take the time to socialize their dogs but when it comes to cats you think nothing of it!
I wanted a very versatile cat and I guess I made it happen. When Lily was little we crate trained her (my sisters helped me...mostly watching me ), who would have guessed crate training a cat right? We went for drives, Lily in her crate, all the time when I went to work. I "leash trained" her to a harness and went on walks. I got her used to seeing other cats and visiting strange places. The only thing she isnt trained with is dogs .I couldnt train her to get used to them! My friends with dogs werent used to cats and the dogs I worked with wanted to eat her...So when I get a dog...Lily wont be very happy but I know she will get used to it.
There is only one thing I dont -really- like about Lily, she doesnt like to be petted. She chooses to be seen and not touched. Quote:

| Re: Clothes for dogs are wrong! It rains a lot here and we always take the dogs out to good fun places. Their under carriages are mud magnets. I decided to get a rain coat for Lula (before Isabel) which was almost like a body suit on her under belly. At the time we were naive and had a lot of pale rugs and furniture. I put her bespoke rain gear on much to hubby's disgruntle. As soon as we were out Lula disappeared into a bush and came out naked. I really don't think she was keen on her new clothes and we never considered them again. When it is cold some dogs do need protection. I love seeing thin skinned, slight coated dogs snug in their coats. |
