probably a dumb TV VCR DVD player question

I'm really behind the times, and don't know what Im doing.

I hooked my VCR up to the TV. The power works and I can hear the VHS rolling inside, but I cant find it playing on the TV anywhere.

Same with the DVD player I just bought. I have it hooked through the VCR to the TV because I dont have enough... holes.. on the TV.

Im frustrated and am just ready to return everything I bought today.

You wont believe how long it took me to figure out to PUSH the DVD onto the thing inside of the player, instead of trying to balance it on top of it...

Anyhow, the VCR and the DVD player have power to them, appear to work and nothong comes up on the TV.

Ive tried every channel - Ive tried to add and delete channels on the TV.

What am I doing wrong?

I think I have most of the kinks worked out now.

did you set your TV to channel 3?
Or if you have a newer version, set select the button on the remote that points to the add-on appliance, like AUX or VCR.
