| Poetry i am looking for dog poems/short stories.....they can be original or just some of your favorites by other people.....these are not going to be published i just want them for myself.....
one that i have been trying to (re)find is one called "How the Dog Was Named" and says how all the animals were called b/4 God so He could "appoint" one to take His place if He decided to go on vacation, and how certain animals said it should be them.....and so on......anyone else ever see that one any where?
but here is one of my favorites:
With Love
I wish someone would tell me
What it is that I've done wrong
Why do I have to stay chained up
And be left alone so long.
They were so glad to have me
When I came here as a pup.
There were so many things we'd do
While I was growing up.
The Master said he'd train me
As a companion and a friend
The Mistress said she'd never fear
To be alone again.
The children said they'd feed me
And walk me everyday.
They'd play with me and brush me
If only I would stay.
But now the Master hasn't time
The Mistress says I shed.
She doesn't want me in the house
Not even to be fed.
The children never walk me
They always say "Not now!"
I wish that I could please them
Won't someone tell me how?
All I had, you see, was love,
I wish they would explain,
Why they said they wanted mine
Then left it on a chain....
unfortunately, i don't remember the author (if it was even given) |

| It gets me evrey time. It's a definite fave of mine.
Dogs Don't Have Souls, Do They?
I remember bringing you home. You were so small and cuddly with your tiny paws and soft fur.
You bounced around the room with eyes flashing and ears flopping.
Once in a while, you'd let out a little yelp just to let me know this was your territory.
Making a mess of the house and chewing on everything in sight became a passion, and when I scolded you, you just put your head down and looked up at me with those innocent eyes, as if to say, "I'm sorry, but I'll do it again as soon as you're not watching."
As you got older, you protected me by looking out the window and barking at everyone who walked by.
When I had a tough day at work, you would be waiting for me with your tail wagging just to say, "Welcome home. I missed you. "You never had a bad day, and I could always count on you to be there for me.
When I sat down to read the paper and watch TV, you would hop on my lap, looking for attention. You never asked for anything more than for me to pat your head so you could go to sleep with your head over my leg.
As you got older, you moved around more slowly. Then, one day, old age finally took its toll, and you couldn't stand on those wobbly legs anymore. I knelt down and patted you lying there, trying to make you young again. You just looked up at me as if to say you were old and tired and that after all these years of not asking for anything, you had to ask me for one last favor. With tears in my eyes, I drove you one last time to the vet. One last time, you were lying next to me.
For some strange reason, you were able to stand up in the animal hospital, perhaps it was your sense of pride.
As the vet led you away, you stopped for an instant, turned your head and looked at me as if to say, "Thank you for taking care of me.
I thought, "No... thank you for taking care of me."

| And Here's Another Favorite.
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

This is one I found online that I really liked.... The Creation When God had made the earth and sky the flowers and the trees, He then made all the animals the fish, the birds and bees. And when at last He’d finished not one was quite the same. He said, “I’ll walk this world of mine and give each one a name.” And so He traveled far and wide and everywhere He went, a little creature followed Him until it’s strength was spent. When all were named upon the earth and in the sky and sea, the little creature said, “Dear Lord, there’s not one left for me.” Kindly the Father said to him, “I’ve left you to the end. I’ve turned my own name back to front and called you dog, My friend.” Author Unknown This is another good one.... Why dogs don't live as long as people Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.. The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.” Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The four-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.” This one I have on my Yorkie page... it is one of my favorites "He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." Always there waiting for me.... |

| silly one... here is a silly story for you....
My husband Jim and I were shopping in Sam's club one day and as we put our stuff on the conveyor belt he asked me why I had only picked up one bag of cookies for him yet I had 5 different treats for the dogs?
By this time the check out girl was looking at me waiting for my answer, I looked up at Jim and said well the day I come home and you pee on my foot because you are THAT happy to see me I will buy YOU more goodies!
I thought the check out girl was going to pass out she was laughing so hard!
Jim just smiled... he KNEW I WAS RIGHT! LOL
