It is a little pricey but you can start with something like Nature's Variety raw patties--they come in a number of varieties. Once you get comfortable and you see how well your dog is doing you can venture out into more raw, be more creative. I started out solely on the NV raw patties and I still use them, they are very convenient when we go on vacation, etc. not to mention they are an excellent food source but then I started talking to other dog owners and I found out where I could get raw meat, from a butcher (two actually) for a little less per pound but still quality, I rotate that into his diet which brought the cost down.

There are many people on this dog forum that do raw and I know you will get some good advice, recommendations. Sure it may cost a little more and may take more time to prepare (especially in the beginning until you get a routine) but you will see that your dog will be much healthier and in the long run, you will save on vet bills.

Keep us posted and anything we can do to support you thru this raw transition, just let us know!

I started raw in 1984- go to this link.. If doing raw, then the decission is made to not trust ANY processed food- ... frozen or not.. Remember with all the recalls frozen has turned into a market- ... Adult dogs are fed at 1 percent twice a day of their body weight. Lower it if the dog needs to loose weight. http://www.dogforums.com/5-dog-food-...structual.html (Feeding raw- two instructual videos) ( you need the sound on..)

Dakota,
First it really helps those of us who want to read your post in an attempt to help you if you would please use proper English punctuation and capitalization. Otherwise your post is difficult to read and many members will pass it by.

OK, that being said, if your dog needs to be on a LOW protein diet, I'm not sure that raw, without professional guidance, is the way to go. It is something that I would research before attempting. With raw you are essentially cutting out everything except for protein, some bone, and fat. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it. But I would try to find someone knowledgeable about raw and crystals to find out more. You may also have to modify a raw diet in this case as well.

There some things that increase the chances of calcium oxalate crystals. Red meats, high doses of dairy products, fats, oxalate-producing foods and some supplements well also increase the chance to. It is best to do a lot of research about feeding a raw diet to animals with calcium oxalate crystals problems and find some raw feeding forums.
