Fromm Four Star

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and have a few questions about food for my dog. I have a 1 1/2 year old pug girl who is very petite. She's in very good health, weighing about 18 lb. She has a beautiful shiny black coat and her vet even says she's the healthiest pug he's every seen! I have tried many different foods for her and nothing seems to work. She came to me on Royal Canin but wanted to feed her the best I can get her. I've tried Solid Gold Just a Wee Bit, Canidae, Timberwolf (which she did OK on, then my store stopped carrying it) Taste of the Wild, Earthborn Holistic, Wellness, PureVita.

She seems to have some problem on every food I try. I keep her on them for a few months hoping these "issues" will improve but they don't. She gets diarrhea easily. Some of the foods she got bored with and stopped eating. With Taste of The Wild her fur started falling out and she was almost completely bald on her underside. I can't remember which food but one of them made her skin very very flaky.

For a pug (who will eat everything in sight) she sure is finicky!!!

Anyway, I've been told by some that she should be on a "single source protein food" as she may be allergic to some type of protein, so we've tried that. I've also been told a grain free food would be best because many dogs have wheat, corn allergies. I'm nervous because most of the grain-free foods are SO high in protein.... is 34-40% too high for a small breed? She is fairly active for a indoor pug. She does agility and keeps pretty busy!

So I found Fromm Four Star foods - many of them are single source protein that contain no wheat or corn. They have 1 variety that is grain free. I want to find a brand that will work for her but has many varieties so she doesn't get bored so easily.

Has anyone used Fromm? What do you think of it? Any suggestions??

Help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Re: Fromm Four Star

FROMM 4-Star is one of the best foods out there, IMHO! I love it for my dogs. I have 4 (look at my sig LOL). Anyway, it is one of the foods that my 4 do the best on. They like all the flavors, and I especially like giving them the Surf & Turf. I think they have come out with with some new treats and can foods that are grain-free!!! I can't wait to try them for my four! Go for it with the FROMM...Good luck!

Re: Fromm Four Star

For the last 9 months have been feeding Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish dry and a little canned. The bag say 21% potein. Sugar is a 10 year old sort of Maltese adoptee. She was on the NB duck and potato, I think, when we got her a year ago and itching. Now, she is in excellent health with good coat and skin. I am pleased with the lower protein because of her age. Maybe this will help.

Re: Fromm Four Star

I manage an all natural/holistic pet store and we have an immense Fromm following. Its frmulas consisting of single source proteins make it an easy transition for most dogs. The Surf n Turf is grain free and not a single source. If allergies are suspected or present, a single source protein diet would be a good path to take. Fromm is a private company who like to stay in smaller stores. They don't compromise the quality of their ingredients for any reason. All in all a great choice with many different flavors for some variety if your dog can handle multiple proteins.
