Going grain free and already doing better

I'm on Day 5 of switching Kina and Sadie to a grain free food.

I had them both on Cali Natural Lamb meal and rice formula and Kina really wasn't doing well on it.

She had loose stools every other day or so. Since transitioning her to TOTW I've noticed since she's been getting more and more TOTW, her stools have been firmer and firmer. She only had loose stools on Sunday and Monday, but as she got more and more TOTW, she got firmer and firmer.

And all the time that I was under the impression chicken was the culprit especially since she'd always have a bout of wicked loose stools after getting into my sister in-law's dog food as free feeds her dogs Techni-Cal, I guess it wasn't chicken as the TOTW that I have her on is the Wetlands formula and it has chicken meal in it.

On Sunday she will be completely switched to TOTW, and I hope to she continues to do well on it.

Re: Going grain free and already doing better

I've had Mandie on Wellness Core since we've got her but I'm transitioning her to mainly grain free (I could never deprive her of her beloved Milk Bones). I've noticed her stools have firmed up as well since we've started cutting out the non-grain treats, so I think we're making the right choice. Yeah for solid poop!

mrslloyd, why not try no grainers or evo wild cravings buiscuts instead?

We use CORE reduced and and we LOVE it. Right now his diet is 100% grain free. For snakcs. he gets no grainers, raw egg, wellness 95% meat cans, wellness core cans, and RMB's. glad your happy on a grain free diet too.

Re: Going grain free and already doing better

I have a dog with allergies and/or sensitivities, he does much better on grainfree. Another dog is elderly with arthritis; I want her on grainfree. The third dog can eat anything and since the other two are on grainfree, he is, too. Right now, I actually have all three on the same foods which is awesome!
MrsLloyd09: you know that there are alot of high quality grainfree treats, right? I bet your dog would love them as much as Milk Bones. Mine love the grainfree ones from CloudStar, who make Buddy Biscuits. I can't think of the name of the treats, Provencal or something along that line. Sojo;s also makes a very good grainfree treat.

Re: Going grain free and already doing better

Mandie gets lots of grain free treats; she just doesn't go from a non-drooling dog to soaking my carpet for them they way she does for her Milk Bones. She loves them more than cheese! Since I'm not feeding grain free because of allergies I give her the milk bones but I keep an eye on her. If an allergy some day develops, out go the milk bones. Until then I will thoroughly enjoy watching my dog go through her repertoire of tricks for a milk bone.

Re: Going grain free and already doing better

Sadie loved the Marrobones from Pedigree.

I no longer buy them as I never got a response from Pedigree as to what kind of animal meat and bone meal they use in them or what kind of animal fat etc!

I did however get an e-mail survey from them asking me what I thought of their new dentastix package!!

She has now fallen for Wellness grain free wellbars!
