Duck ingredient causing gas??

Mandie has been on Wellness core since we first got her. We transitioned her from Nutro Ultra and she's just gorgeous. We've been mixing wet Wellness food w/ her kibble for four months now, no problems. The whitefish formula, turkey formula, um another formula I can't remember, no problems. This last trip to Petco, I noticed one formula I hadn't tried, Duck and Sweet Potato. I was like ok let's give it a whirl.

Mandie gets a half cut kibble and a tablespoon wet food at breakfast and at dinner. Well yesterday, I noticed her tummy making weird noises and that she was passing gas quite a bit. It was the third day I'd been mixing in the new wet food. Today, her gas has been really gross. Like a couple of times, I've blamed my husband. I didn't mix the duck formula in w/ her kibble today to see if that might be the problem. It's the only thing we've changed about her diet. All of her treats she's been on for months; although today she did have one of those mystery poops where she pooped something indistinguishable out, which I thought was super weird because she's not a chewer unless it's something we've given her and all of her toys are accounted for.

Any one have any problems w/ duck before??

Re: Duck ingredient causing gas??

Sorry to bump this but Mandie is still having gas and since we're in the middle of moving, well now on the tail end, I wonder if maybe stress is causing her gas. We haven't fed her any of the duck formula wet food since Wednesday, so it should be out of her system and still the blow you over gas. The only other thing I can think of is stress. She's been super whiney and will just lay on the ground. We've tried keeping her on a normal schedule since we've only moved two doors down. I have been wetting her food too, since I cut out the wet food. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

From my past experience gassiness is typically a mild reaction and sometimes a sign that the protein level may be too high.....

I should elaborate some here..... we rescued my puppy when he was 4 weeks old and he was put on a top of the line grain free diet.... after a few weeks I couldn't figure out why he was so gassy, let alone how smelly his poop was, it was horrible, I mean smell it from the other room if he had an accident horrible....after talking to the vet, nutritionalist, and numerous reps, we finally concluded that it was likely his diet was too high in protein for him, we eliminated the high protein content and voila everything was hunky dorey.

Well Mandie is on Wellness core which is high in protein but she's been on it for four months. Her smells...well like poop. If she was developing an intolerance to her food, would there be other signs?

Re: Duck ingredient causing gas??

Typically if it's an allergy it will accompanied by other symptoms like dry flakey skin, dandruff, hot spots, itchy paws etc .... it doesn't sound like that is the case.... Tico was on Timberwolf lamb and apples for 3.5 months, and his poop didn't smell "bad" perse but just strong, strong enough to smell from another room.... I am not sure exactly what is bothering your poor pooch, I can only say what I would do, for me personally, I would look for a product with yucca (which aids in digestion), oatmeal (to settle the tummy), pray I could find one with pumpkin meal (which is phenomenal for tummy as well), and search out a hypo-allergenic or less chance for allergy protein source, like bison, herring or fish (if you can find it where it's naturally preserved).... if the other formulas worked for her I would take back the can of duck, and just switch back to something that worked for her previously.... keep in mind it can take a few days to get it out of her system.

ETA allergies can start with simple gas, of course she could have a tummy bug as well. Take her off the duck and if it doesn't improve talk to the vet and see if it is a bug.... If it isn't a bug and she does fine on her other formulas then presume there is something in the duck formula that doesn't agree with her and avoid those ingredients with future purchases of course
