Yea gad what's a mom to do to feed her babies?

Okay, I had asked for opinions on dog food for my fussy dog. I was given a lot of choices mainly the Wilderness dog food. Got that finally after returning a couple. Well she won't have anything to do with it. I took it back today and got Utra Nutro.

Then we went over to a Dog's Bakery and they sell Orijen. Bought two small sample types. I am trying that now. Gad, this is driving me nuts.

If you have a dog food specialty store in your town - they usually have little sample bags - for free. Explain to them that you have a fussy eater and that you are trying to find a food that she will like.

We have a couple of stores like that were we live and that's what I did until I found a couple that Maddie liked and tolerated well. Some gave her loose stools and some had kibble that were too big for her, but we did have success and she's a happy eater. I gave the extra samples to my brother - his dog's will eat anything!

Same thing with Nia, she doesn't like any food. In the end I just gave up and picked what I think is good for her. She will eat it if she's hungry enough is my thinking.

There really isn't a dog food that Nia likes so whatever's good for her and she seems to do well on is what I feed. She'll eat every day or so and although I do think she should eat more frequently, she seems to do fine like this.

You got it exactly right! No healthy dog will starve itself to death, although it might want us to think so.

Instead of catering to the dog's whims just find a healthy kibble that you like and think is good for her. Then offer it to her at each meal for a maximum of 30 minutes. After that take up whatever hasn't been eaten and put it away until the next meal at which time you offer it again. She'll eat when she's hungry enough and knows you won't give in this time. Oh! and no dessert (erm treats) if she hasn't eaten her dinner.

It's the same at our house, as far as Lucy goes. She doesn't seem to like anything very much. The other 3 are fine. So, I give them what I think will be the best for them, depending on how they do on it....good stool, good coats, good breath, good weight, etc. Lucy eventually comes around, no matter what they are eating at the time. It works for us. Right now, they are eating Nature's Variety Instinct Duck and raw medallions. I plan on rotating with Acana, Fromm 4-star Surf & Turf, Wellness CORE red. fat. I might give EVO another try, but none of my dogs seem to do well on Natura products (except maybe Cal. Nat.) because they are so rich. I am planning on continuing the raw medallions, and maybe adding in some Honest Kitchen Force or Embark.
